Just wondering how everyone thinks these blokes are going:

Dean Polo: Was a revelation in 2006, however in reality he hasn't done a whole lot since. He had the shoulder injury last year, but even before them he hadn't really put many good performances together in 07. So far this year he seems to have lost a yard or two of pace and has fallen well down the pecking order behind guys like Jackson, White and Edwards.

Danny Meyer: Has had alot of injuries so far over his career, but he really still hasn't done much. According to the RFC website he should be available in 1-2 weeks. Is he already gonski?

JON: Was lucky enough to go to the Port Melbourne game on the weekend to see this top 10 draft pick 3 year player in action. He is a good athlete and took some good marks, but his skills or awarness have not improved over the last two years. High draft picks like Pettifer, Schultz, Tambling and the likes were/have been heavily malainged early in their careers but they still showed glimpses here and there. I'm yet to see any real glimpses from JON yet.

Clayton Collard: What is going on with this guy. I know he has poor fitness, but surely a player of his supposid calibre should be at least knocking on the door of Coburg Seniors. Tasman Clingan played Ressies all year and was not re-rookied, does Collard hold the same fate?

I would just like to know the oppinion of you blokes, where you think all these guys are headed, etc?

Polo, yeh he really is falling behind jackson, POLO, white and edwards.
is gonna have to work hard to get above polo especially

in all seriousness, i dont know why everyone rates polo so high, yeh he had a great debut (so did marty mcgrath) and he just played like a young player would be expected to play since then. i dont really rate him that highly

myer, piss him off
jon, piss him off
clayton collard - i am looking foward to this guy, hope he can be a player coz he could be good for us. handy pickup imo

Polo - great debut but seems to be slipping for mine but has had shoulder probs so lets see what the rest of the year brings

Meyer - poor guy just hasnt had a break once he does come back from this injury he would want to do something as he may be one who is delisted but im sure the tiges would rookie him if that was to occur

Jon - im prepared to give a couple more years he is very lean still but i love the way he attacks the footy he just seems he needs to grow into his body and his kicking needs alot of work

Collard - havnt seen this guy play but he excites me and once he gets a chance im sure he will be playing for the tiges on their list next year

Polo - Its not that he is no good, Wallace hates him and will never give him a game and will promote any drafts before him.

Meyer - send him to SANFL for a few seasons
JON - send him to WAFL and see how he develops
Collard - Im not sure why he was rookied, was mediocre with freo, but can take JON place on the list.

Absolutely spot on! JON has got to have the least idea about football of a top ten draft pick-ever. The call for more time with him is plain crazy( is it his third year?). You are spot on when you say there isn't even a glimpse. His lack of awareness is comical . Did I also mention he is a disgraceful decision maker? GORN!

Meyer is finished.

JON, just another brilliant top ten choice from Greg "Wayne Carey made me look good" Miller.
JON and Miller can both go.

surprised and dissapointed at Polo not kicking on..i feel that TW prefers the likes of run and carry naturals in whitey and edwards in favour of him, wouldnt suprise to see him traded at year end and I reckon he may prove us wrong to:o

AS I understand it, former player Rohan Robertson was the recruiting man at North Melbourne at the time and think you'll find he is the one who was instrumental in getting Carey and indeed John Longmire and one or two others to Arden Street at that time!!!
Has a lot to be thankful for!

Yeah its a worry but he's not at peak fitness yet, 2nd half of the year is when we'll see what he's got.
Danny Meyer: Has had alot of injuries so far over his career, but he really still hasn't done much. According to the RFC website he should be available in 1-2 weeks. Is he already gonski?

He'd want to get that hip right, get fitness by round 12, 4 games at Coburg to get selection and then play out the year at RFC to have any hope of avoiding the chop IMO so yeah almost gone.

I dont know, I really dont.

He is knocking and knocking with his offense, the kid is a freak but he's lazy and gets distracted on the wrong things in games. Has the tools but not the brain yet. He also has other things to do first, outside his game, to make RichmondFC trust him to even let him play at Coburg seniors. It's a long road for Collard.

Polo - Its not that he is no good, Wallace hates him and will never give him a game and will promote any drafts before him.
This rumour keeps getting repeated. If you saw Polo play on the weekend you'd know why he's not getting a game.

Agreed, saw him 2 weeks ago and was nowhere near it. Doesn't have the workrate and intensity of many of the other young guys at the moment.

I would just like to know the oppinion of you blokes, where you think all these guys are headed, etc?

Polo: Struggling with his shoulder reconstruction. Players often take 18 months to recover because the shoulder is so stiff after the surgery, hard to raise arms up to mark and also impedes running flat out. Too early to really judge but probably really behind in core fitness and confidence because of the injury last year and hasn't caught up. I'd reserve judgement until at least 2nd half this year.

Meyer: Needs to keep his body fit, otherwise all the talent will never be able to be used. Playing for the same position as Edwards, too, who has gone straight past him. Will need to get fit, more importantly stay fit and then who knows?

JON: No idea. Hope the light goes on for him this year but can't see where he would fit in anyway. I hope he is not the poster boy for why you should always draft a footballer with an early pick rather than an athlete - you can always get more athleticism into a young kid with training but they rarely develop football smarts if they don't have them by draft age.

Collard: IIRC they can only play 12 Richmond listed players in VFL 1s, (I stand to be corrected on this) so given few injuries at the moment may have had to play VFL 2nds because of numbers. He is capable of the freakish without a doubt BUT has to work not only on fitness but the defensive pressure side of his game - Aaron Davey has set the standard for players like him (and Pettifer, which is why he is at Coburg too). Not to mention the off field distractions...

Look, 4 players at least have to be dropped off the list at the end of the year. One or 2 retirements, a couple of young talents... if half decent players have to go this is good because it means for once we have depth of talent, which has been totally lacking for years. Players like Collard, Pettifer, Bowden, Polo etc in the 2s while the 1s are playing well is the best thing about the last 2 weeks - but it is only 2 weeks. Just remember how crap the Tigers were against Collingwood all of 3 weeks ago... still, glass is half full, not half empty.

JON and Miller can both go.

You're talking about the same man who discovered Nathan Foley, Will Thursfield and others don't forget. GM hasn't been as bad as people think.

Meyer is most likely to rocket into the best 22 IMO, he's got everything we want and more. Even if he only ever gets 12-15 possies a week his 2nd/3rd efforts, tackling and intensity could make him a valuable part of the team... plus his skills and pace are exactly what we need.

You have to be cautious with hip injuries though, who knows how much of his athletic qualities have disappeared and how much pain he has to play with.

Collard - Never going to make it.

Polo - A little worrying, looked so good but since his inury he is a different player. Needs to show something over the next four months.

Meyer - Gone.

Oakley-Nicholls - Haven't been overly impressed by him but the coaching staff always talk him up so happy to give him another year in the system. If he doesn't crack the team by then then give him the boot.

clayton collard virtually has no idea(about everything), will be a tough player to develop and would consider his ability to play for richmond distant

Polo - very very very overrated on this board, but cant see him being shown the door just yet. Others will go before him.

Meyer - just hasnt had a fair run at it. One more year... l still have hope. Reckon he is the X factor. Reckon he is the diamond that will ultimately take us to the next level.

JON - but rough on the kid, but he's nowhere. Absolutely nowhere. :thumbsd:

Collard - havent seen enough of him, so a bit ho-hum really.

Can see Casserley being the first to go. Angus to go next, Hyde not far behind and finally JON is silly enough to have the door slap him on the arse on the way out.

Expect Raines to be under a fair amount of pressure too.

I'm pretty sure Raines was given a 3 year contract at the end of his runner-up rising star year. Which means he will be here to at least the end of 2009 as we wouldn't pay out his contract. Casserly was given a 2 year contract mid way through last year meaning he too will be here until the end of 09 - he is rated really highly inside the club.

LMAO. Yeh, the same man who wasted pick 12 on Meyer and pick 8, yes pick 8, on JON. The "hits" he might have had were more good luck than management. Wasn't Patto at pick 16 as well??

How could anyone in their right mind choose JON at number 8?

I feel it is pretty unlikely any of the 1-3yr players are going to get cut this year unless there is an incident similar to Peterson last year. JON possibly the worst of the group but will be persevered with and the rest generally seem to be showing something. If we need to find 4 or 5 spots it will come from the senior deadwood. Prime candidates at present are Bowden (retirement) and Tivendale. Pettifer as possible trade bait unless he pulls his finger out and plays team footy. Pressure is possibly also on guys like Polo & Cogs to show they have recovered from injury. Jackson and Hyde are other possibles depending on form the rest of the year.

Some reasonable players are going to be shown the door in the next few years as our depth improves. If things keep improving it is going to be very competitive to keep a spot on the team once players hit 23yr+ - a player will be either good enough for the first 22 by then or out the door to make room for the next rookie class. Geez when have we ever been able to think that let alone say it. Could we even get to the point of having Cap casualties!! ;)

Improved depth means we can take an extra year or 2 developing the kids and see what game they have as they mature. The promise shown this year so far probably means the borderline young guys will get to stick around another year to see how they develop as it now isn't imperative for them to be fast tracked and force pressure on the senior squad.

Seriously doubt Meyer will be shown the door, the club will want to see what he can do when he is fully fit, even if it takes another full season

I think TW's, correct, decision to pick sides more on defensive facets of the game may be affecting these bloke, along with Pettifer, Connors, Bowden, a bit more than most. It may take these blokes a little longer to get use to it but are sure they , and the club, will be better for it. Let's re-visit this in 6 weeks time.

Let's put it this way. Totally stuffing up a top ten pick( JON) is like missing a goal from the goalsqaure.

Getting a rookie who comes good is like a nin-pointer fomr 75 metres that does a leg break and goes through.

You can't rely on those sort of goals and you should not miss the ones from the goalsquare...like JON!

Our friend Greg hss missed a few form the square in his day!

away from the tit for tat and back on subject ...

Polo will be fine. Those saying he didnt do much except a good debut have short memories. When Polo recovers he will be a part of the team dont you worry. Is gonna be a stoogy midfielder.

JON : Indecision. Thats his only reall big flaw. IF he can overcome this he will be a player. This year is all about confidence. I think the coaching staff and all the players know this and are just constantly trying to build his confidence. We've seen it work for Tambo so who knows.

Meyer : I dont want to let him go until we see what he can do when he has a fit and willing body and gets a few games to show something. Has so much class and because of that you simply cannot give up on him. Let him get his body right and then give him a good go. Another year contract if need be.

Collard : wont make it. too slow, no forward pressure, no fitness.
