Yep agree. I'm not one of the "play the kids just coz" group, but with Tommy back on the sidelines and apparently some good form in the VFL, he appears the best option.

There’s a young bloke called Dane Rampe who might be a handy replacement for Tommy Mac.

But I do admit - Snell is the only VFL player performing at a level that could possibly justify a senior game.

Oh yes I forgot about that young fella! Probably needs to play a few more games before he becomes an automatic selection though 😂

But has he really? He certainly looks the part... big, strong, mobile, willing, decent kick.

I'm not averse to giving him a crack, once our finals hopes are gone, but the recent assertions (not by you) that his proficiency demands he be selected are a little off imo.

He had one very good quarter last week with 9 intercepts while helping to limit the 3rd-worst team in the comp to two goals. 4 intercepts for the remainder while they piled on 17 more goals suggests it was more an anomaly than the norm.

Not for the first time this year, he struggled to defend well running into the wind, and while I acknowledge AFL-level stadia largely mitigates that problem, it gives a good indication of how under-developed his defensive instincts are.

Apparently, according to one noted observer, that one quarter is representative of a month's-worth of good form... 18 unremarkable touches against the cellar-dwellers, in a performance that didn't even draw comment in our game-day observations or the post-match, 10 in the loss to the Bulldogs and 8 in the win over Southport.

He has definitely shown flashes of quality, and it's not hard to imagine he'll be in the thick of it next pre-season but to suggest the difference between him and Rampe, this week, is negligible, while there is still a glimmer of hope, is to deny the chasm between AFL and VFL level football.

Sure, give him a taste... when we are done, because he isn't at the necessary standard now.

If he works as hard over the coming preseason as he did over the last I can envisage him stronger, faster and better balanced. Perhaps the best thing might be to ask Sir Dane to have a run in the 2s to work with him over the last couple of games if we're out of it

Happy 20th! :birthdaycake:

Easy to forget he is only 20!

He isn’t ready yet, but I think he is showing plenty of promising signs. Bullish on him, but we don’t need to rush.

He is getting plenty of practice down back with the amount of ball coming in weekly :p
He was a forward as a junior except for the National Champs where he was forced to CHB by the selectors; to accommodate Ethan Read and Jed Walter forward. I hope Cox doesn't lose sight of that string to his bow.
