Reserves Match Report - Round 9
Tuesday, 17 June 2008

Box Hill Reserves Match Report
Round 9 at: City Oval – Date: June 15 – Report by: James Ranson

Box Hill continued their winning ways with a comfortable 57-point victory over Werribee on Sunday, their fourth win from their past five games.

It was yet another impressive display from the Hawks as they brushed aside the Tigers in the second half to slip into the top five.

Box Hill led by just five points at the main change, but imposed themselves on the contest thereafter with a 12 goal to four finish.

There were a number of standout performers, Kris Nye and Steve Daniher had (22 touches), Dale Bull (26), Adrian Papaluca (30) and George Anelopoulos (27) provided the Hawk’s core in the midfield.

Angelopoulos chimed in with three goals as well to cap off a fine game while Kris Shore and Troy Wright stood up in the forward line with three and four goals respectively.

Tim Walsh’s performances in the reserves are beginning to raise a few eyebrows after he finished with 17 disposals, 10 marks, 20 hit outs and four goals.

These are all promising signs ahead of next week’s crucial game with Frankston. The Dolphins sit just ahead of the Hawks on percentage in fourth, providing Box Hill with a great opportunity climb further up the ladder and close the gap on the top three.

Box Hill Hawks: 4.3 / 8.7 / 15.12 / 20.14 (134)
Werribee Tigers: 3.2 / 8.2 / 11.4 / 12.5 (77)

Goals: Wright 4, Walsh 4, Shore 3, Angelopoulos 3, Nye 2, Sinclair, Hogan, O’Sullivan, Hatton

Best: Wright, Papaluca, Angelopoulos, Walsh, Smithwick, Shore

Re: 41. Tim Walsh (Rookie)

Good stuff Squawk :thumbsu: That is exactly what this forum is about, well done.

Tim Walsh named for his first seniors appearance with Box Hill today (Sunday 22.06.08) - Round 11 vs Frankston after his fine performances in the BH2's didnt go unnoticed.

Conditions dont appear to be great but good luck to the young man.

Re: 41. Tim Walsh (Rookie)

Never heard of East Whyalla. Must be a zoned combined team or something used in juniors only made up of players from Roopena, Centrals and Weeroona bay?

I think the article got it wrong. Walsh was B&F for Eastern Eyre football league in U15 Carnival held at Pt. Lincoln in 2004 run by the Port Adelaide Magpies Football Club.

Hawthorn finalises Player List for 2009

12:30 PM Fri 31 October, 2008

Hawthorn Football Club has made its final changes to its Player List ahead of the AFL National Draft on 29 November 2008.

The Club will release three players from its 2008 Rookie List - Hugh Sandilands, Alex Grima and Matt Suckling - while it has been decided that Cameron Stokes will be retained as a nominated rookie to allow the Club to utilise five selections at the 2008 AFL National Draft. Stokes will be available for AFL senior team selection in 2009 as a nominated rookie.

Promising young ruckman/key forward Tim Walsh has been retained as a second-year rookie.

The Club will also include former NSW scholarship player, Will Sierakowski, in its 2009 Rookie List. Sierakowski, from Riverview in Sydney was the first player signed by the Hawks to its NSW Scholarship program in 2006.

Seen at the Hawthorn FC Family day Sunday 22.02.09 with a moon boot on. No official word from the club as to what type of injury or how long he will be out for.

Did NOT play in the first NAB cup game in Launceston on 21.02.09

Re: 41. Tim Walsh (2nd Year Rookie -2009 Season)

My Man for 2009 season begins his campaign for senior selection by playing his first game in 2009 for the Box Hill Development Squad, Round 6 at Casey.

Has been training with the senior squad for the last 2 weeks.

With Walsh now playing football the Hawks have 4 out of their 5 ruckman now active. Only Max Bailey remains on the injured list and his return from injury is not far away.

Round 6 2009 VFL Season

Tim Walsh did play his first half of football this year for the Box Hill Hawks Development squad.

This is Houdininhuddo's report:

"Tim Walsh played the first half and Carl Peterson played the second half. Will Sierakowski played the whole game with some rotations off the bench.

In the first quarter Tim took three strong one grab marks about 20 – 30 metres from goal and kicked two goals and missed one. His opponent was shorter however Tim read the flight of the ball well, positioned himself and held his ground.

He had a couple of runs in the ruck and held his own. He won a couple of contested possessions and disposed of the ball by hand to advantage. He also laid a couple of strong tackles.

A good first up game
."

Thank you to Tman for the report :thumbsu:

Round 7 2009 - Box Hill Hawks

Tim Walsh played his 2nd game in a row for the Box Hill Hawks Reserves team.

This is Houdinihuddo's report

"I watched the second half of the seconds and Frankston won the game because they had a far superior work rate and they played as a team. I thought we were a chance if we kicked the first goal in the last quarter and gained some momentum, however in the first minute Tim Walsh kicked poorly after taking a strong mark 25 metres out directly in front of goal and the boys never looked like winning. Will Sierakowski had a quiet half but still showed some goods signs with his foot skills.

Tim Walsh took a couple of clean marks and competed well in the ruck and may be a chance to play in the BH firsts next week."

Re: 41. Tim Walsh (2nd Year Rookie -2009 Season)

Tim Walsh played in the seniors for Box Hill against Port Melbourne at Teac Oval in the round 8 clash, 2009 Saturday 30 May.

Comments from Hawk poster Roger Rogerson who attended the game.

"Walsh - was the shining light for me. Took some commanding overhead marks and got around the ground pretty wall. He looked a bit short of conditioning which is understandable given he hasnt played much in 09. He looks to have a future to me. I cant see him as a 1st ruckman at AFL level but a competent 2nd ruckman (Bailey and Walsh has a nice ring to it). "

These comments sum up the feelings of many about Walsh's performance.

Also agree about the ruck, @ 197cm is probably just that bit short for a 1st ruck but 2nd ruck is good.

The question is, based on his performance and our lack of talls in the seniors, especially in defence will he be called up this week or next week?

The AFL has allowed each club the chance to upgrade a rookie from round 11 without the need to replace someone on the long term injury list.

Re: 41. Tim Walsh (2nd Year Rookie -2009 Season)

I'd love to see Walsh get a senior guernsey Rusty. His fitness seemed a bit down yesterday, plus he's probably behind Renouf for a call-up at the moment.

I like the idea of having Walsh's "kick behind the play"' style in the ones at some stage in 2009 though.

Re: 41. Tim Walsh (2nd Year Rookie -2009 Season)

Has anyone seen what his closing speed and defensive skills are like? I liked a lot of what I saw of him in the Box Hill game, but that seemed to be more filling holes and taking good grabs.

THURSDAY: Rookie Watch - TIM WALSH

ONE is a lanky, red-headed ruckman from the Eyre Peninsula. The other hails from Darwin and is one of the most exciting players in the AFL.
And while they are still yet to play a game together, Hawthorn team-mates Tim Walsh - a former Port Adelaide Magpies junior - and Cyril Rioli have formed an unlikely friendship.

List assessment: Hawthorn
By Chris Fagan

Tim Walsh
He’s had a good season. He missed the early part with some leg injury problems. He played the second half of the season and became a solid performer as a ruckman in the VFL. He played an outstanding game in the first final against Geelong where he went up against Shane Mumford and Trent West.
