It is why Sydney and St Kilda showed interest in the lightly-framed midfielder last year but he was ignored on draft day because he had missed most of last season with a stress fracture in his back.
We have a Rookie B list?
Well, bugger me.
Welcome to the greatest club in the world, Johnny!
metro:
johnny rayner - 1st/2nd best 800m runner in australia. chuck this kid on the wing and he'll get 20+ touches every game guaranteed
both are 16's guns who play in st bernards 1st's.
rayner is also a young year 11. frequently appears in western jets' best most weeks. young enough to be a year 10
john rayner
freekshow
Rayner winger runs all day played back pocket.
Jonny Rayner . He had a very good u/16 carnival .Playing down back he played on some good players and matched them sidebottom etc. Again he's still very light on but if he can keep his speed and get a bit stronger he will be a great running player. He needs a good year in the tac and anything can happen .
Johnny Rayner is out for the rest of the season with a back stress fracture- Outstanding athlete and very clean- real chance to go.
Johnny Rayner - (F) 25 March 1991, 184cm 66kg. Western Jest/Taylors Lakes
"foj1:: 44. Johnny Rayner 184cm 66kg Western Jets
A left field bottom aged selection however a bit of method in my madness. Rayner had a string of 3/4 games which were very promising before a back injury has put him on the shelf for possibly the rest of the season. Rayner is a national quality 400m to 3km runner and this is a fair qualification to have on your resume in today’s football. Rayner obviously needs to bulk up considerably but he might be one of those selections that pay handsome dividends into the future."
Some results from Aths Aust & other BF posts:- Rayner won u17 800m Aust champs last year(pb 1:51.50); 3rd in 400m (48.79); youngest male athlete at Beijing Olympic trials; has three 800m World Youth (u18) qualifiers; rep Vic in cross country (4-5km). Can play footy also-Vic U16 last year playing BP on resting mids like Sidebottom, Walters (3-4 goals kicked on him in 3 games). Four games with Jets this year before injury averaging 20+ possies. Bottom age and agree with others that he is a smokey in draft. Probably a project player for next year or two before his body big enough for the big stuff.
Post sensational player - deserved & popular winner of Jest B&F. Smart dedicated footballer who won't let anyone down if (when) picked up.
Sherlock & Rayner are the Jets quickest mids. Sherlock is very elusive and provides plenty of run and carry. Is playing for Williamstown seniors in VFL today. Rayners running ability well documented - top 3 400m in Australia; national 800 champion for his age; rep Aus in both events -played a run and carry role for Jets on a wing but has been moved into the mid field proper in past 5 matches and gets equal amounts of inside & outside ball. Since moving to midfield would probably be leading the Jets in HBGs - lot of upside for a skinny kid.
Kyle Hartigan, Michael Barlow and i think Johnny Rayner are with Essendon. Obviously Majak Daw with North but he will switch to the Bulldogs on wednesday.
By the sound of it he'll set the standard in the running department come pre-season.
What position does he play?
He was on SEN this morning. Also stuyding a medical degree at Melbourne Uni. One smart cookie.
He said that he was lightly framed when going through TAC Cup (56kg) but he is up to 72kgs now and feels better in his body.
I really like the sound of this one!
