Geez it really makes you sick in the stomach when you think about what could have potentially happened to poor Gus.

Yeh it does which is why I was quick to try and get further clarity on the idea that wild animals could have taken him.

I think that's the least likely thing that might have happened.

Totally, as the nothing burger of information gets bigger, it beggars belief they don't have something to work with.

I'm all for OP SEC where there is highly sensitive information that has potential to obstruct the investigation, but gee its quiet
Might have to make use of the eyes in the sky from when there was an independent sighting of Gus. Call in expertise on satellites.

It's not a 'known fact' that Josie shoots snakes with a shotgun at close range on the veranda. Or that any shot was fired at snakes or otherwise on the day that the DM reporter turned up.

But it does add another fact to the 'known' file. Josie owns a shotgun and is very sensitive to media inquiries.
OK stand corrected. Deleted "shoots snakes" from my known fact column and inserted "Josie owns a shotgun"

It has been corrected many times on here, but still this false information being published. It is NOT a pump action shotgun, it is a lever action.
A lever action requires a basic firearms licence.
Can you please edit your post to correct?
That’s what is reported in the daily mail.

IMO

It is true that authorities in Australia can only enforce suppression orders by binding domestic media and ISPs They cannot stop overseas outlets from publishing online. But they do limit Australian access and punish local breaches. Australian authorities also can and do use indirect pressure to force media organisations or foreign platforms to comply. For instance, if a foreign media outlet has offices, staff or assets in Australia, as many do, they can be prosecuted for contempt. This means most foreign media organisations will self-censor. Australian courts can also order local ISPs to block (Australian) access to entire sites or domains found to contain suppressed content - this has the effect of hitting the media outlet in the hip pocket as they can't generate revenue in Australia, so they are indirectly pressured to comply.

A good example is the Archbishop Pell case.
That case is a very good example of the Australian suppression orders NOT being valid overseas. While this was suppressed from being reported in Australia, the whole story was readily available from overseas web sites. Anyone who wanted to look could find it. Personally I knew many months before it was publicly reported her in Australia.
And I cant see that is ever going to change.
The Australian government doesn't control the internet.

I found the New Zealand press very handy

Military images with the help of AI and satellite comparisons, will get a LOT of information of activity across the station, changes in topography/vegetation etc and possibly information we didn't even know they could get.

You can do your own sleuthing with the sentinel satellite imagery, these satellites have updated imagery every few days

I was using it during the floods of the Murray a few years ago to see what my access to areas would be like for the trapping job I was doing.

Definitely, and I read geofencing technology can allow the military machines to set virtual boundaries through the property, and alerts will be received if a vehicle exits or enters a certain area. So, vehicle movement can be monitored across locations, once the experts set it up, and it can stay set-up for a long time.

If one is contemplating the hypothesis of a third-party intervention scenario. In past cases, Perpetrators/third party assistants have often moved their victims many times after the fact.

The police gave notice last week that they were coming back for a much wider search. To date, the fourth big search hasn't eventuated, as data is still being analyzed by experts. Hypothetically, such information might cause a third party to action, and if transporting by vehicle, the technology could trigger and perhaps help to narrow a search grid.
My point is that current technology can help, when all seems hopeless.

Great thank- you, I will.

What were you trapping for? Was it carp and were the images accurate and helpful?

Trapping for mosquitoes and getting them tested for japanese encephalitis virus and the other bad viruses they can carry, and yes the images were good enough for me to see where the water had spread so I could plan where to go in advance. It was great at the height of the flood as you could compare to google maps which uses old imagery and see how far the water had gone.

Two adults have gone missing here with the police asking for the public to call in with information, saying if they aren't located a search and rescue might be ordered.

They're towing a caravan and have apparently vanished.

If O’Connell didn’t see any wild animals on the property in the 90 hours he was there, other’s might support there were no wild animals at the time of Gus’s disappearance.
Wow I didn’t realise Jason O’Connell was there for 90 hours. Do you know how many days or nights he spent searching? And was Gus’ dad with him the whole time?

Oh no, this doesn’t sound good.

Let’s hope they may have plenty of water & food in that caravan as they could have a breakdown. . they’re equipped with Solar so should be able to charge phones, but mobile coverage may be scant..

Anyone travelling into the outback should have Starlink. The couple would be able to email or Whatsapp friends from anywhere.

Foreign media, ( I think it was the New York Times and/or Washington Post) reported the suppressed details regarding Pell. Mainstream Australian media, and organisations with an Australian presence (E.g. News Corp) generally complied with the suppression orders, although they 'hinted' at the truth through suggestive and cryptic headlines - this resulted in legal action costing them millions of dollars in total (admittedly small potatoes to them).

But the difference between the Pell case and Gus's case is that Pell was an internationally known 'celebrity'. Gus is not. There is no value in organisations such as the NYT reporting on Gus's case. As per the statement attributed to a detective in the Tyrrell case, "Nobody gives a **** about that little kid!".

Note that it is also illegal for Australian journos to feed this information to overseas news organisations for subsequent publication. When attempted in the past this has been tracked by metadata and timestamps and prosecutions have occurred.

They usually get bogged driving off road. They will send out the drones first.

That would have been fun.

When I was croc nesting it would have been so useful locating nests as we had to use sightlines from a chopper and hurling pink tape at an identified nest.

Yeah it was a great job, only lasted 18 months as the funding dried up.

Good news. They’ve been found.

That’s made my night.

“A combined search of the area was undertaken using police vehicles, police aircraft and with the assistance of Northern Territory Parks and Wildlife,” a police spokesperson said.

“NT Police search and rescue thank the public for their assistance and remind Territorians and visitors of the importance of sharing travel plans with family or friends when exploring remote areas of the Northern Territory.”

The couple are reportedly unharmed and have been reunited with their family.”

How scary for their families. I’m so very glad they are ok. It’s a very unforgiving part of Australia, environment-wise.

It’s interesting that they used the assistance of the public, well not interesting, it’s kind of normal.

And in Gus Lamont’s case, the police and family of the person missing don’t need our help. IMO

It’s a bit weird.
