Sydney was slugged with a $50,000 fine ... for having 19 men on the field with about a minute left in the draw with the Kangaroos at Telstra Dome.

...

The league has also fined the Western Bulldogs and Hawthorn $7500 apiece for "19th men" infractions in the last couple of seasons.

As good as a $42500 discount to the Bulldogs and Hawk. But who's the protected species according to the nuffies?

You know it kinda worries me a bit, that IMO the message that carried this level of fine compared to other similiar incidents leads me to believe that they think we gained the 2pts in illegal circumstances, which if true is damn unfair as Paul Roos would never do something this stupid deliberately.

I mean what happened with the NAB cup fiasco had any effect on this? some things we will never know i guess.

It was an honest mistake, but still a serious breach. I'll cop the fine if all thought of stripping the 2 points is quashed.

I'd like to know who was responsible for monitoring the interchange gate. Surely the AFL employ a 3rd party to police it? Or is it left up to the clubs?

Apparently, it is up to the opposing team to call for a headcount.

Perhaps this is something that should change? Perhaps the sideline umps should actually hold a player off the ground until he is replaced as happens in most other sports?

An umpire or official at the interchange should spot that it's happened and there should be a penalty applied by the official / umpires. Not reducing the score to 0 or fining $50000 but something sensible - a 50m penalty or a free kick + 50m penalty etc. If an official caught it immediately, the impact would be minimal and a nominal penalty would be sufficient.

Aren't all opposition teams lucky that there isn't any grassy knolls at any of the current AFL venues.......

Hey guys...I reckon the $50K slug is a ridiculous amount...regardless if you agree with a fine being applied or not, $50K is way overboard. If the shoe was on the other foot I reckon North would have been fined $10K...good luck this week anyway.

I think a fine is absolutely appropriate. And I think the AFL are right to be losing patience with these Interchange infractions - hence a larger penalty than previously.

But I agree that $50k is way above what other teams have been fined for exactly the same offence. The Hawks and Dogs only had to pay $7500. So the "protected species" team in Sydney actually copped $42500 more than they did.

WTF are sideline umps

yep, good point. ridiculous fines like that wouldn't happen. 50 m penalty or free kick would be good option.

the 19th man was obviously an honest mistake...lets pay the fine and get on with it..
but what was the interchange official doing at the time ??

btw, another point , do we still have the salary concession ( 110%) or has that ended. i am under the impression that the afl stopped that concession a few years back . can anyone confirm this .....
its just that a few posters have been ripping into the swans about still having that concession

Im with most here on we deserved a fine but 50 grand, get real..
Im so over Victorian football purists complaining about the swans this the swans that, then the local rags have their sports writers adding their garbage about how we should be docked the 2 points, then best of all was, Terry im a useless coach, ill use any chance i can get to divert attention from me Wallace, saying how we should be made an example of.
Honestly Terry you have fooled your mob long enough, how about setting an example and stop talking shit...

The Swans still get a COL allowance. Even Eddie seemed to think that was acceptable.

There is a further concession available to all clubs that have more than a certain percentage of its players originating from outside its home state. I would imagine the Swans still qualify for that too (and probably the Lions as well) but I don't know how much it is.

God i'm so glad Paul Roos took the coaching job instead of that clown, who would of instated a "5 year plan" into the club which translates to: your club goes nowhere for 5years and then i laugh all the way to the bank.

You can say that again, but honestly i couldnt believe it when i heard it..

The AFL's love child the Sympathy Swans get away with it again.

Must be great for you lot. We all know an umpiring or procedural error can be fixed retrospectively by the AFL.

Good. Would Sydney have gotten a draw with the extra player? They play dirty, bottom line. They king hit opposition and now they cheat... Get them out of this league, they obviously have no respect for the games traditions.

Bit like Danielle Kerr hey. Still amazes me that he is playing AFL footy. Talk about lovechild, first the 2006 saga on the phone to a "you know who". Then like a cheap sniper headbutts Scott West when he wasn't even looking:rolleyes:

You know what they say about those in glass houses:D
