So why are we dropping Ben Johnson again???

Was one of our best early this year

He has really been average the past 5 weeks and might just need a rest has had alot of injuries past 2 years might just be catching up to him

Really want to see Buckely get a chance could offer alot with his pace and long kicking

Why are we continually selecting Ben Johnson, would probably be a more apt question.

I didn't see the VFL today, but BJ has well and truly used up his credits from his early season form. If Buckley performed today he deserves Johnson's spot.

Really?

Yeah, BJ was terrible the other night, he only completely cut Pearce out of the game after 1/4 time, I mean, how dare he do the job the coach wants him to.

Yes, his disposal is ordinary, but you are saying bring in an outside, half back flanker with no accountability for a player who is our best tagger.

OK.:confused::thumbsd:

Argh, the old 'Ben Johnson is our best tagger' chestnut, I thought we completely debunked this fallacy last year. Completely ignore the fact we haven't played a tight tag on anyone for years now, but Johnson is far from our best tagger.

Jarryd Blair spent more time alongside Pearce than Johnson did. Regardless though, Pearce is hardly a scalp to brag about these days, he hasn't had an effect on games since his rising star year, certainly not worthy of a hard tag.

Johnson was terrible on Friday night, what good does it do using him as a tagger (supposed) when he himself virtually counts as another player for our opposition? He turned the ball over incessantly (or else it got smothered), has a complete inability to lay a tackle, seemingly always gets beaten in a contested ball situation (if he does ever contest it, we know how much he hates committing to getting the hard ball), always turns back into traffic, the list goes on.
It's the same old story with Johnson, prevent him from picking up his cheap handball receives out the back and slightly pressure his left side when he does actually manage to get it and it's game over, thanks for coming.

Outside, half back flanker with no accountability sums up Ben Johnson to a T, Simon Buckley is a perfect replacement for him except he is far more damaging by foot.

Johnson has been dismal since the Geelong game (coincidentally the period where we started to encounter some decent opposition), time to stop clutching at straws to scrounge up an excuse for the bloke and his continued selection in the side.
Anyway, Swanny didn't make the thread about BJ, so it's getting off topic. If Buckley was to come into the side, you'd be hard pressed to find someone who didn't think it would be at the expense of Ben Johnson though.

I agree with your last line, that if Buckley is to come in, no one could argue that is would be for Johnson.

I just think Buckley hasn't proven he can peform at a consistent level in the VFL, let alone the AFL yet.

You also know my thoughts on Johnson, and they are just that, my thoughts and opinion, and I will leave it at that.

Johnson to play this week, lock it in (Eddie).

Buckley will get a game before the end of the season, but with Maxwell, Davis, Dick, Meds and MaCaffer all in the "queue" ahead of him, it won't be this week.

Yep, fair call on Buckley's consistency, but my thoughts are that he is the logical replacement for Johnson and I personally think BJ has been poor for over a month now, and naturally Buckley would be the one to replace him. Of the players in the VFL capable of filling the role, Buckley would be the best performed and of all the guys you mentioned who are ahead on form, Buckley would be better suited.

And yeah, most people know my thoughts on BJ as well, I shouldn't have made this thread into a rant about him, I might edit that post a bit to save the thread being derailed.

BJ probably will play, but I don't necessarily think that means it's the right choice. I could have made the same statement about Fraser, O'Bree, Lockyer etc at times this year and I would have been on the money, doesn't mean their selection was correct though. He will definitely play with the suspensions we'll cop anyway, so it probably is a moot point in the end.

good post mate.....

i cant believe people on this forum are so quick to bag players and have them dropped... BJ has actually been playing his role well.... oh and i think youll find that in the games we lost this year BJ was not playing

coincidence i think not..

I haven't seen him play but i doubt he will get a chance until we have one of Tooves, Harry, Shaw or Johnson injured as they haven't been in bad enough form to warrant to be dropped. Sure BJ has been average but I would prefer to keep a stable back 6 or 7 then keep changing it up especially in a game as crucial as this saturday is.

He will get his time, I just don't think it'll be this weekend.
