Will Hayward
Spritely Sydney Swans forward Will Hayward enjoyed a rocketing start to his career as he became the 11th-youngest player in the AFL era to reach 50 career goals in 2018. The 2016 draftee’s nippy pace and cunning goal awareness have made him a dangerous option in coach John Longmire’s forward line. A broken jaw and a persistent hip injury limited Hayward to just 12 goals in 13 senior games in 2019, but the South Australian is attacking the 2020 campaign on the back of his first full pre-season. Don’t be surprised if the exciting Swan finds himself on a wing this year.

Will Hayward
DOB: 26 October 1998
DEBUT: 2017
DRAFT: #21, 2016 National Draft
RECRUITED FROM: Walkerville (SA)/North Adelaide (SANFL)

I Hope we keep him. He has another hundred games in him and is now at his peak performance years.

There's a valid reason so many clubs are interested in him.
Not sure how other recent high profile signings at Adelaide, such as Dawson and Rankine are going to feel if Adelaide does sign him at 5 years at a higher rate than they are getting.
Same at Carlton, with other players allegedly taking slightly less to keep the group together
That might work in our favour if there is some dissent from their current playing group

If he has another outstanding game in a row the contract speculation will be bonkers

If he has another outstanding game, someone should create a:

`Can Will Hayward be the Goat?' on the main board.

Cornes reckons he’s a goat in waiting… LOL, earlier this year Cornes was saying Wilbur was one of those under the radar / under rated players… FFS hasn’t that changed quickly??!!! 🤦‍♂️

Cornes has rated him for years, always pumping him up. Not sure what you're suggesting has changed?

Wasn’t a comment about Cornes, more about how quickly things can change. One minute an analyst says he’s under the radar & underrated, and many board members (including me) saying he’s not playing well,.. and then after a block of very good games he’s now very much in the limelight and getting multi million dollar offers thrown at him.

Is Hayward playing well this year because Heeney is mainly in the mids?
And Jordon is playing a more negating role so therefore Hayward is the only medium forward.
Yes. The Grundy, Adams and Jordon trade, Heeney fit and healthy, Chad stepped up to A+, Rowie doing the bullock work has allowed Will to play a very attacking role and it has also assisted Sam Wicks improving.

I think he's just going well because the ball is in our forward half more often and we're using it extremely well.

Hayward is a bit of a barometer. There seems to be a strong correlation between Sydney's good seasons and his own.
