Ive decided to get rid of A Browne as his injury has put me in strife. Ive narrowed it down to three possibilities. Thoughts.

1. Priddis $198,000 odd - When will Cousins come back? That is my concern, as this may put Priddis back in the reserves :(. His first score (round 1) of 38 will dissapear this week, and will probably score around 70 IMO. He will increase about $40 k i recon. Should average around 85 by years end.

2. Gibbs $155,000 odd - I know your all saying why didnt i have him from the start of the season, well, i just saw some better options. Now seeing Browne is injured, Gibbs is a tempting prospect. Also with recent news of Stevens being out for the season, what impact will this have on Gibbs' scores? He is young, and looks a little slim in the body, but should average around 75-80 by years end.

3. Schmidt $90,000 odd - This is the risky one (in terms of games), will he get enough? If Roos decides to play him more often i see him averaging around 70, maybe more, thus making him the most profitable pick up out of all 3. But will he get games?

I guess the question i have to decide is, do i want to make money, or do i want a stayer? If its money, i have to ditch Priddis, and opt for either Gibbs or Schmidt, but if its a stayer, then Priddis is my man (depending on a Cousins return???)

Mate i seriouslydoubt cousins will be returning anytime this year let alone anytime soon so dont use that as a reason to throw priddis out of the selection. Still i would run with gibbs. Even if you pic khim up now i still think there is 40000-60000 to be made on him+He will go really close and maybe even outscore priddis come year end.

An average of 80 means a player is worth a little more than $300,000. That means if gibbs can get that he will make $150k (on what he is now). An average of 85 goes up to around $320.

Now, I know you want to upgrade your bench players for cash.
You have 8 bench players, atleast or around 6 of them should be playing each week. From those 6, for the time being you will only need to trade out probably 3 of them to upgrade. I don't see why you need to waste a trade on getting rid of Browne, when he will be back round 7, and then will shoot up in value in the following weeks. You will probably find that you won't even trade out the player you brought in for Browne for cash in the first place.
It is like you only have 19 trades, insted of the 20. I guess that is everyone else's bonus.

Not really. he got 2 in his last game. That means if he is back by round 7, his value will only start rising by round 9 or 10, then by round 14 or so he will be at a 'reasonable' price. What a waste of time! In that space of time i could have ganined over $200k

Your making it out as if you need to trade out all of your 8 bench players. The players you trade in, will play and rise up aswell. And remember you should always have a bench player who can get up for you each week for the 60-70 score just incase of an injury.
Suit yourself, waste a trade.

yeah agreed, you're wasting a trade.

and none of those options are all that ideal. whoever said that gibbs is gonna average 80/85 is a bit optimistic IMO. i'd be expecting somewhere more around 70ish.

still a good pickup, but a total waste of trade for your purposes Jonas

if you must trade browne why not look at richard hadley...
this dude would have been a gun for the lions by now without his 2 year hiatus from the game. he is a tackle machine and for a tall player gets in and under as well. if you can remember the 2003 grand final he made that amazing snap shot for goal. with fitness, he is more than a "one hit wonder".

Its not a waste of a trade.

You are given 20 trades, and situations like these are necessary for a trade. This is especially the case early on in the season, when player prices increase the greatest. Bowne will take over half the season to see any type of result. Consequently, I can take the opportunity early in order to maximise my situation. Additionally, Browne is injury prone, and if he returns and gets injured again, then im really screwed ar'nt I.

Its a waste not to trade.

Im taking Priddis...

Well it depends. If you already have lots of cash cow bench players which you can downgrade later on, then why waste a trade getting another one? In theory all of your bench players should be playing games, and therefore all should be candidates to be sold off for profit later. Of course, 20 trades is enough to do this several times, but it isn't enough to sell off all 8.

I would simply suggest that perhaps you may already have players to be sold later down the track, and that you don't need yet another one. Presuming that is why you're buying him, which is what I've gathered through reading this thread.

If you spend a few trades making money throughout the season that's great. In fact one could argue it's neccessary (and I would). But if you spend too many trades simply re-arranging your bench, your playing 22 could suffer.

Basically I suggest there's nothing wrong with doing it a few times, but too many uneccessary trades will not help you in the long haul.

Why post this thread if you are going to take Priddis anyway and why ask for people opinions if you're going to tell them they are wrong?

I value people opinions, and im not telling them they are wrong. As you know, trading is a nerve racking moment, and i have wanted to know peoples thoughts on the 3 names ive mentioend. So far, i have had little feedback/rankings/opinions on these three possibilities. The only feedback i have had so far is that it is a waste of a trade (which i believe is not, hence my reasoning to trade this week) and no real feedback on which would be best.

However, the only four points i have gathered from this thread regarding my question so far are:

  • I have 'concluded' that it will be a waste of a trade to pick up Schmidt, as i understand that my current bench players will suffice in terms of money making.
  • Priddis is still a question mark, as fletchers return could bump him out
  • magpies03 comment saying gibbs would be best
  • and Ramrod's idea of hadley (which i will not jump on)...

To upgrade Brown to Priddis is 98 K or something like that right?
Pridds isn't really likely to jump much more than 100K on his price atm which is around 200
so he is most likely not going to go alot over 300.. therefore you won't end up making much profit.. at the expense of a trade.
Unless you want Priddis starting on the field i don't see much point in the trade.. this is just IMO

and also i really wouldn't think Priddis and Gibbs would average 85 this year...

Mate, I'm not having a go are trying to argue with you. But it's just that from this last paragraph here you seemed to demonstrate that you understood the various options, but were mainly questioning your reasoning (see your first sentence).

The detailed paragraphs at the start further suggested you already knew your options well enough, so the only real room left open for advice was whether or not it was a good idea for the purpose you had in mind.

Anyway, getting past the misunderstanding, I think if you're simply looking for a player to make money, Gibbs would be a better pick that Priddis. They will most likely average around the same, but Gibbs is more definite to get games and he also starts off 60k cheaper.

Ultimately you should do whatever you think is right and I'm sure you know full well that just coz some random said it on BF doesn't make it better than your own opinion. You seem reasonably well informed and probably know what you're doing.

But yea, my advice is Gibbs.
