Collingwood have been blessed to have so many champions pull on its black and white stripes, past and present greats, such as Walter (Di.ck) Lee, Gordon and Syd Coventry, Harry and Albert Collier, Des Fothergill, Bob Rose, Peter McKenna, Len Thompson, Peter Daicos, Darren Millane, Nathan Buckley and others.
I want an in-depth view, from Collingwood supporters, on Collingwood's best champion in every decade that you relive watching... but there's a catch.
CRITERIA
Catch #1
The champion has to be 23 years or younger and made his debut before the decade reached the halfway point. Eg: 2005, 1965, 1982, 1994 etc
Catch 2
I am looking to foresee consistent footballers, who have been week in, week out performers since they started at the club.
Since I am good to return to the 80s, I will commence from the 80s to now.
1980s
Peter Daicos -
The mulleted Daicos is known miraculous goalkicking ability, balance and ball handling skills. He shifted into a permanent forwards role after starting his career in the centre, where he kicked 97 goals in a single season. He was known as the Macedonian Marvel.
Darren Millane -
Millane never shirked the issue and always gave 110 per cent to the ball. He found his place on the wing and was a feared footballer for his toughness and attitude towards the game. His leadership nature would inspire many Collingwood wins.
1990s
Nathan Buckley -
Buckley lead the team single-handedly during the troubled 90s, where his consistency, composure and foot skills shone through upon others. The man was so good that he would win his own ball and then attempt to regain possession again. He was named Collingwood captain in 1999 and has been captain ever since.
2000s
Due to incompletion of the decade, I would like to see your notions and thoughts on whom will take out 'Champion of the Decade'. Names such as Alan Didak and Josh Fraser, perhaps.
I will hand the car over to you - start driving!
