It looks like this is the direction the club wants to head in, and I for one think, that if done properly, would be great for supporters, and great for increasing brand awareness.

But of course 'properly' is the key word here.

For starters, it would have to be a Foxtel channel. The platform is there, and there shouldn't be any legal issues blocking content.

The big issue is what that content would be. As the channel would be running 24/7, the Club in conjunction with Foxtel, would have to come up with 24 hours worth of programming.

Now, it's a given that times outside 9am-9pm are for all intents and purposes, 'dead hours'. So essentially, from 10pm (under the assumption the 9pm show runs for an hour) through to 9am then next morning, you'd basically have replays of random Collingwood games and replays of everything that was on eduring the peak period.

But Collingwood needs to fill the 9am to 9pm period with something.

Right now, Collingwood has:

- In Black and White tonight (could be fluffed to an hour twice a week, preview show, post match show)
- The Black and White show (could be fluffed to half an hour daily show)
- The Club (coudl be fluffed to an hour but stays a once a week show)
- Replay of the most recent game
- Replay of the VFL game

That's around 6 or so hours of non-repeated programming that is exclusively Collingwood based. Mind you, 2 of those shows would only be once or twice a week.

That leaves 6-8 hours to fill in.

Obviously, they could show the existing Fox Footy shows like On The Couch etc which could easily fill in a lot of gaps and makes sense. Why have Pies fans switching back and forth? Just simulcast the Fox Footy live shows on the Pies channel at the same time, and Collingwood works their stuff around the main stuff.

But Collingwood would still need to produce at LEAST 1 or 2 more shows themselves.

Any ideas?

I had ideas for 2 shows (which may seem stupid, but could be cool).

Have a Dream Team/Supercoach show. A half hour or full hour show dedicated to discussing DreamTeam with a Collingwood bent. Player stats, DreamTeam scores, which players we shoudl be looking at focusing on etc. Hosted by someone at the Club or even the fans (look at Dave having his articles published on the site)

How about a BigFooty Collingwood show? Have a weekly half hour or hour show hosted by a BigFooty member or two (media background obviously) and they discuss weekly events and even threads on BigFooty. We could have a weekly thread that runs alongside the show where could ask questions and the like and just generally discuss all things Collingwood from the fans perspective. I think it would be cool.

They could also possibly broadcast training? I mean, I've always wantedto go to training sessions but never get a chance, and Gosh's Paddock isn't exactly closed off so it's not like 'spies coudl view our trainign on TV' because they can view it anyway simply by heading down there, which they already do.

Any other TV show ideas or ways to fill out a dedicated Collingwood channel?

The Big European Soccer Teams have there own 24/7 Channels. Though don't know how they operate and get on TV.

Content I would like:

  • Daily Pies Show
  • Old Pies Games
  • Replay Games
  • Magazine Style Show
  • Replay of Full VFL Game from that Weekend
  • Documentaries
I reckon could come in the next few years:D

the travis cloke spoken word hour.

One can dream.

I love the idea, massive exposure, more accessibility to fans - and hey, maybe we can employ some of our stars as 'hosts' and pay them extra outside the salary cap? That would be the biggest coup.

I imagine all the other clubs will follow suit like they always do :p

Good analysis and good suggestions.

I think it would be great to have a Collingwood Channel (especially for players who may fancy themselves as wanting careers in the media in the future).

Just to give an idea of how it could run, here's the tv schedule for a few of the epl clubs...

http://www.chelseafc.com/page/TVSchedule

http://www.manutd.com/en/MUTV/MUTV-Full-Schedule.aspx

http://www.arsenal.com/whatsontvonline

As you can see, a lot of game replays and highlights of recents and classics. Also quite a few interview/feature type programmes.

Those Channels look great and what would stop Collingwood doing something like this if the Club is Loaded with Money?
