A few tidbits for 20/6/03

[Portmanteau]

- Pavel Podkolzine has pulled out the draft ... After working out impressively a week or two ago, which propelled him to the top 4 in this year's draft, in many people's minds, he felt it best to pull out because he had no received a firm commitment from a team in top 10. IMO, he would have been taken in the top 10 regardless. He's returning to Europe to work on his game, strength and conditioning in an attempt to go #1 next year.

- The Chicago Bulls' much maligned point guard Jay Williams was involved in a motorcycle accident and broke his leg. This pretty much means you can scratch him out of any potential trades this off-season. I haven't heard any firm details on the severity of the injury.

- ESPN's Chad Ford thinks Sacramento has offered Peja Stojakovic and Bobby Jackson to Denver for #3, Marcus Camby and Ryan Bowen. OK, Chad.

Hopefully Jay Williams doesn't end up being the new Bobby Hurley.

Didnt expect that. I dont get it either? Just because no team in the top 10 gave him a commitment doesnt mean he wont be drafted. And even if he slides back in the draft, the further he slides the better the teams get and the more chance he get's to win games? Weird...and their is no guarantee at all that he will go Number 1 next year?

Bad and good news. Now it's almost certain he stays in Chicago which is the good news but you hope that his injuries are in no way serious and that he can get back onto the court with a minimum of fuss. No Hurleyitis hopefully.

How Ford even has a job at ESPN is beyond me? I mean seriously why would Sac Town trade THE best pure shooter in the game, no question! And the best 6th man in the league for Ryan Nobody and Marcus Injury? Sure 3 would bring you Carmelo but why set yourself back so many years...then when Melo starts hitting his straps, Webber, Divac etc will be retired. This is about as ridiculous as it gets.

Tough break (pardon the pun!) for Williams and Chicago. Looks like he`s gawn for next year and possibly his career according to early reports. Lets hope they`re premature and he gets back to the game.
