I couldn't remember Shane Murphy at all. Went back and looked at the stats. Can anyone remember if he got injured in the 1978 SF against North or whether he was dropped for Norm Goss in the GF? Either way, that SF was the last game he ever played for us.
I bet it's the best in the comp if you put a criteria of say 5 or 10 minimum Grand Final appearances.

Thanks mate. That would make sense. He didn't get a touch in that last game, but I suppose he could have been on the interchange bench for most of that time.Wouldn't it have been the other way around. With Goss unavailable for the SF and then available for GF wouldn't a fringe player like Murphy make way?
From memory he was speedster. Maybe in looks somewhat similar to Darren Pritchard... if memory serves me correct.

He was a small half forward, quick, but maybe too small.Wouldn't it have been the other way around. With Goss unavailable for the SF and then available for GF wouldn't a fringe player like Murphy make way?

Another reason why we are such a great club. Loyalty works both ways (club and player). I think we have transitioned our captains extremely well. Can't see Mitchell or Hodge going elsewhere either so this tricky trivia question will live on!Bingo! Pretty amazing that for over 65 years all of our captains have been one club players.
