There's only so much money to go round, i guess the next step would be offering him the club!

That's baseball. There's very little loyalty, just big fat pay cheques.

When it was first floated that he might go to the Cubs I didn't really give it a second thought but with the Cubs manager being Lou Pinnella (who was A-Rod's manager in his early years at Seattle) there is every chance that he could take the money and move to the Cubs.
Although where would they play him? Aramis Ramirez is there starting 3rd baseman who IIRC just signed a new 5-year deal to stay in Chicago, so maybe A-Rod would be the starting short stop?
 
Nice timing ARod= announces he is opting out of his contract during the World Series..........like anyone wouldn't notice!
