Everyone would expect Dawson to come back into the side as a backman. I think our backline with Johnson back is working fine.

Perhaps Dawson could play in forward line or even as the second ruck man. He is a big body, fairly mobile and would play a role destroying arial contests and bring small forwards into the game. A big body like his may take some pressure off Pav.

Just a crazy thought.....maybe I have had too much to drink.

Yeah that...
I'd be all for trying AlexP in the forward line when we get dawson or silvagni back

If Dawson could kick goals he would be a forward. He can't so he isn't. Please don't refer to a time when he kicked 8 goals in under 12's.
He does have a 100% conversion for set shots in the AFL :)

Its not as crazy as it sounds.

No. Way. Dawson was tried as a forward around when we lost to the Eagles last. He has no awareness. Dawson will slot in with McPharlin and Johnson when they are back in the team. Perhaps will push Suttclife out as well as allow Clancee to play his role.

He kicked 8 goals in a game for Box Hill Hawks while he was at Hawthorn, which is more than any of our forwards have managed in the WAFL (and the VFL is a stronger comp than the WAFL).

I think playing anyone over 6'3" as a forward is preferable to playing another midfielder. 5 man forward line hasn't worked for us.

And we wonder why people on the main board pot us about our lack of scoring ability.

If this a semi considered idea by anybody on this broad it's a clear sign our key forwards barre Pav are insanely insanely average.

So I've had a look for this magical 8 goals, it looks like it was round 17 2008 against Bendigo ( 7 years ago) who kicked 20 points for the match ( they scored 10 the next week against Williamstown). Bendigo won 5 games that year and Box Hill didn't make the finals.
The 8 goals was an anomaly, a blip, a fluke, whatever you want to call it. Dawson can't/ won't play forward. The only dumb question is the one not asked. But no one could seriously think this is anything close to bordering on a good idea. The only credit it may have is if mid game an injury requires it. It will never happen.

Exactly my point

Permanent forward? No. Swing forward for a surprise (Johnno can also do this), yeah maybe for 5 minutes.

Dawson can ruck though, he's better than Hannath at that. This would be useful to us if we had a plethora of KPFs who couldn't ruck and we were going in to matches too tall. If only.

We do have 1 defender who is a very accomplished key forward - Luke McPharlin.

You feel like he's one of those vintage McPharlin as a forward leaps over a pack away from a snapped calf though at his age. Maybe if Dawson, Johnson and Silvagni were all 100% fit you'd risk it but we'd be cooked if he went down.

He's no more likely to go down playing in the forward line than he is in the back line.

lol come on this thread is laughable.

On the other hand why not Mcfarlin as a forward?
