Hi i just found out about this You need to update your Encryption Key to play Blu-Ray movies.AACS Encryption Key expires encryption key will expire after a certain period of time. The only way for you to keep playing the newest movies with your Blu-ray playback device is to update and keep up with the newest firmware. Typically an AACS encryption key will be valid for 12 to 18 months. And after that period, it will have to be renewed for playback of the newest Blu-ray movies.
Your player updates a security list every time that you put a new disc into it. The player scans the disc for security keys that it adds to what it already has. This process can actually disable your player if the software believes that the security key for your player’s model has been revoked. The reality is that you can be forced to buy a new player because someone else tampered with their own device - or because of a glitch.
The only hope that you have to prevent that is to accept regular updates from the maker of the player.
Whether it is PC software or commercial player, your manufacturer will stop providing updates eventually. After which you run the risk of the player ceasing to function as soon as you put a new disc into it.
This to me means not worth buying spare Blu Ray players keeping them unused when Players are gone like VHS Players. The Blu Ray also not playable if firmware discontinue . I have no issue storing DVD players in case they become discontinued have one over decade that are fine.
