Okeydoke7 writes on why Easty must abdicate the throne if the Royals are to progress.
It's time for Easty to abdicate the throne. After putting in a lot of hard work behind the scenes, he was successful in gaining admittance for the Gold City Royals for S16. They have been competitive on and off the field. But the drums are beating behind the mighty gates of Gold City. Though there are loyal subjects in this current regime, there is a growing hunger for revolution. A feeling that the Royals could be so much more.
Player unrest, talk of an upheaval and major philosophical differences will be the challenges facing the Royals over the course of the off-season. The unrest and the differences in style are easy to discuss. They have been in full view of the SFA public of late. Disharmony between posters, bitter feuds and a lack of faith in the leadership of the club has caused serious distress among some Royals players. There is an unquestionable divide forming amongst the SFA's newest team. The SFA needs to retain the new posters bought in by expansion for the competition to be viable in the long term. And despite Easty's huge success in the setup of the club and the administrative side of the captaincy role, he has failed to drive the culture of the club in their debut season.
The talk of upheaval is much more interesting. I have it on very good advice that several high profile players have recognised an issue with the Royals that is intensifying. There are whispers that high profile players are willing to back an almighty spill post-season to lead the Royals in the right direction. One of the league's biggest names is driving this possibility, and is seriously considering causing a spill post-season that would see him take over the captaincy of the fledging club.
This is not purely speculative. Serious talks have emerged between high profile outsiders, and some of the disenchanted posters within the Royals. Though the Royals attempt to gloss over the issues in public, there is a growing divide which is beginning to seep into the public forum. The upcoming upheaval seeks to transform this club by delivering on the potential that exists within it.
Abdication was once viewed as weak. It was expected that those in royal positions would hold them until death. But the times have changed. The last thing the Royals need is a throne tarnished by the reign of Easty. The Royals need progression. There will come a time, in the not too distant future, where Easty will be tested. To retain honour and valour, Easty must consider abdication. Choosing to stay and fight for his throne would only be in vain and to the detriment of those he leads. In modern times, Pope Benedict and Queen Beatrix are notable dignitaries to "pass on the baton." If the potential spill comes, the last thing the Royals need is a stubborn leader refusing to abdicate the throne. They need a leader that can read the signs and understand that the greater good of the club is at stake. If he is smart, he will see the light and abdicate. Move on from this phase of his fantasy footy life. And look back proudly and fondly on the club he created. If he is ignorant, Easty may find himself in a public battle that he cannot win. This is the first sign, Easty . Your reign may soon be over.
DISCUSSION - Who would you like to see captaining the Royals in S17?
