But gun midfielders like Ablett aren't. In fact they're about as rare as forwards like Franklin are actually.

I wouldn't swap Ablett for Buddy just like most Hawks wouldn't swap Buddy for Ablett.

Both teams are blessed to have such freakishly talented individuals though that's for sure.

AMEN.

i'd like them both at Hawthorn lol, but again, i would always pick a star KPP ahead of a star midfielder, that's just me. Having said that, Gazza is playing unbelievable football at the moment, if he started out as a midfielder and not as a forward pocket . . . who knows where he'd be now.

Spot on

Ablett is multi-dimensional

Franklin is awesome, but only when he gets the ball supply. Other than that he can't take pack marks

If I was Fevola I would be a bit miffed at the hype. Fev has been kicking bags out of nothing over the past few years

no way. buddy just needs a pre season like gazza had to build his tank and he can easily move into the middle and bust teams a new bum hole

Buddie is just a man. sure he can kick a ball and take a mark from the front. but hay who can't??? to many people are saying he can't be stopped and i think thats BullS*#! he can and will be stopped come round 17 the Geelond midfield will take the Hawks apart. see the thing is the Hawks have had some easy games so far where the Mighty cats have played much harder teams. And each time they(other sides) gave it all they had in the tank the Cats just opened up a can on em. Mattie can and will hold off Buddie. And Buddie will see so little of the Footy that he will think he is in the stands watching the game! i've watched every game thats been on the box and let me tell you there isnt a team in the AFL that can beat the Mighty Cats when They are playing at there best. And thats a fact!

Melbourne (MCG), Fremantle (Perth), Kangaroos (TD), Adelaide (Tasmania) and Brisbane (Brisbane) 5 games, 5 different locations is a pretty fair travelling schedule.

FWIW, I think there are pretty good arguments that can be made on both sides of the fence for either player.

Put either player up for trade and they'd be taken in a heart beat, at least at the same price as Judd.

Simply put both Geelong and Hawthorn can't afford to trade either player, alone their worth so much to their clubs it'd be inconcivable if either were in different colours IMO.

Easily the 2 best players in the comp ATM, in the same side they'd be unstoppable.

Midfielders and KPP are too different to compare

Geelong would never trade Ablett for reasons totally off field. His name IS entrenched into the GFC and they would never ever get rid of him. The Ablett name belongs to Geelong. Plus he's a gun.

I wouldn't swap him for Buddy though. He will kick us to a flag in the next few and is the best thing to happen to Hawthorn in 20 years.

I rate them as the best 2 in the comp. I also think that Ablett is better then Judd. Too much hype around Judd and Ablett shows as much as him on the field. Too much is read into Brownlow form and its stupid for arguments sake that some medal that the umpires decide on that is the defining factor. The umps cant even get basic interpretation right let alone hand out votes. Plus they tickle Judds balls every week and will most times give him 3 votes just for showing up. From what i have seen on field, i would take Ablett over Judd.
Spot on with everything there,

Fevola, Pfft. Never kicked 100 goals, and he's been around how long?. How else is a forward going to perform if he's not getting ball supply? An illogical arguement.

Fev kicked what 85 goals a couple of years ago in one of the worst teams in the past 20 years. Not a bad effort.

Not bad, the reason we're are excited by Franklin is because his scope for improvement is enormous, not so much on his given performance.

FWIW he had 130 scoring shots as a 20 year old last year and has already had 45 scoring shots this season (9 a game) without playing one truly awesome game.

Bare in mind Fevola has been in the system for 6 more years then Franklin so Buddy bound to be a lot more raw then Fevola whos ‘break out’ year was 2006 (25 years old)

If Franklin can improve his goal kicking and get rid of his reckless tendency to give away wasteful free kicks he could possibly kick 120-140 goals in a season playing the FF/roving half forward position, given good ball supply. That's a massive call, but if he can work on his flaws its not beyond him.

Ablett vs. Franklin is the old classic Midfielder vs. KPP.

You are joking right? I mean Ablett I would say maybe to but as for the rest? We are talking about players here that you will most likely not see an equivalent to in your life again. Brown is good but has done not much this season and you pick him about someone who has 29 big ones from 5 games? The rest are all magnificent but are far off one in a lifetime players like Buddy and Ablett.

I hope Egan comes back or Harry really kicks into gear by rd 17. I'm not sure Scarlett is the best matchup for Buddy!
Have to agree. As good as Scarlo has been this year I think Egan is better suited to Buddy, giving the advantage of using Scarlo's attacking from defence which has been a highlight this year for mine (thanks to Harry Taylor - how seamlessly has he been admitted to this team??). God help the rest of the comp when Otto is back......

Hey guys I can't understand any of the constant stream of talkback at the moment in Melbourne saying that Buddy Franklin is the best player in the league.

I know I'd rather have Gary Jr in the Bulldogs line-up at present. His game on the weekend was amazing, and has been doing it for the past 3 or 4 seasons consistently.

Imagine putting either Buddy or Ablett into the current Melbourne team. I suspect Buddy would struggle to gain the impact he enjoys at present on the end of a superstar Hawks midfield. Even Quinten Lynch looked good 2 seasons ago. Whereas I reckon Ablett would be just as special in the Melbourne midfield as the Geelong midfield.

Just wondering what your thoughts are?
What the hell are you on about?

Buddy is the most exciting player in the competition, he's a forward so it's to be expected. All great forwards rely on supply so saying he's not as good because he relies on others too much is crap. Different players, great careers to come.

It's hard to say if someone's better.

They're all at that same level of brilliance, all in different circumstances. Franklin is definitely in that group of players.

Not necessarily disagreeing with you but the bloke before was bagging Fev because he'd never kicked 100 goals and then went on to say that no one kicks goals without supply.

I think the reason the only reason they are being compared now is that they both have the ability to pick up there entire team and win a game almost by themselves. If the game is on the line they seem to be the ones that do something special and lift. At the moment I would say they are the best two in the league at this (can do it more consistently) but some of the other names listed are also known for this Judd and Brown in particular have this abiltiy also.
