Guys, I know there is a lot of stuff going on in the main forum about Riewoldt I just wanted to say my condolences in here away from all the commotion. It was a great game right up to the end and it was unfortunate it has such a devastating end to such a fine young player like Riewoldt. From what I've heard he's facing about 12 weeks on the sidelines but I hope it's a lot shorter, I always support the Saints (when they're not playing Brisbane) and wish you guys a great 2005.

The guy isn't dead ffs. He's just injured.

At the after match function the report was that it is a broken clavicle and depending on the severity it could be in the 4-6 week bracket.

I have all my fingers, toes, eyes etc crossed.

Well, I was not happy last night.. on a few reasons.

A few of the boys mentioned (Aussie et al) that they still didnt believe they were given any respect from Brisbane.. I thought Hamill to be one of only a few who really took it up to the opposition.. I was sitting home watching out captain seriously damage his shoulder while lunging for the ball, then I see two bruisers in Michael and Scott make a beeline for him.. Hamill (thank christ we have him) was the only one who appeared to be remonstrating with those two insolent pricks!!! Im sorry!! but if I saw that occur on the field, as a teammate of Reiwoldt, and then to see Hamill outnumbered.. I would be over there in the blink of an eye.. no one around.. I witnessed members of our side (and I've played a high level of football) either pull out or swerve to avoid the crunch.. My question I put to all you...! IS this StKilda team still intimidated by Brisbae??

Secondly.. Brendan Goddard.. you are supposedly 98kg.. throw your goddam weight around son!!! you tap and prod.. I saw him get outmuscled by little Corrie last night and thus beaten in the contest.. Have a look at someone like Cameron Cloke (same age and weight) at the way he uses his muscle.. I was happy in many areas last night.. but I have to get what I've said off my chest first.. Cheers lads

Just in response to the last thread, I thought Goddard and Fiora did exactly that. When they could have been hit, they swerved and got out of the way and gave the ball away easily to Brisbane. Goddard is a number one draft pick. In his third year, it's about time he stood up. I was going for you guys last night because I love watching St Kilda play, but there is no way on earth that Gherig should have played. He was just embarrassing himself by playing (even more so from his even during the summer). I suppose the positives were that you finally found a ruckman in Ackland and I thought McGough did a few good things.

keep ya chins up fellas it is only round one remember ..roo will be back well before the 12 weeks some on here are predicting .
the Lions are a very tough and physical team ..and the saints always struggle to beat them in Brisbane (but then who doesn't )
the positives to come out of the game for the saints was the performance of Ackland ...he had more touches last night than Knobel had all last year !
Firoa looked ok as well ..but needs to toughen up a little and work on his disposal .
Hamill was great last night . it's a pity you never had a couple of him .
still 21 rounds of footy left so plenty of time to get back into the mix .

It's a damn shame. One of the real brownlow chances, first game captaining a team that is most likely heading for considerable success this season, damn good player, does is collarbone in round one which pretty much puts him out for brownlow contention for 2005. I was disgusted seeing the Brisbane players (Micheal and... ?) give him a few hip and shoulders when they clearly could see he was injured and walking off the pitch... that is just bad sportsmanship and a disgusting display of cowardice and malice. On channel 7 news today it said he'll be sidelined for a month which is probably the best you can hope for. Hope he gets better soon (though suffers a mysterious 1-day illness when playing against west coast ;) )

My heart went out to Riewoldt seeing him so upset and hurt. Hope he makes a full and speedy recovery. I didn't think what Mal Michael and Chris Scott did was very sportsman-like - that sort of thing you expect from Matthew Lloyd.

I couldn't be arsed quoting all of you whingers so I picked this one.

You can be forgiven for your bleatings about the injury to glassboy as its only the first game of the season. But if you can't see what is part of the game AS part of the game (he wasn't going off , there was no doctor on the field after he waved the trainer away to get back into position to play on) and brace yourselves for more of the same as the season goes on, you might as well swap your scarves and beanies for eye liner and lippy, yer f'kin fgts :D

Nah mate, I'm no alias, just a bloke that loves footy to be played the way it should be, whilst reserving the right to an opinion and the right to enter an open forum with footy fans that like to speak their minds.

... who likes to post crap

I dont think they should go.

All 3 are outstanding players and ive got huge repsect for them all.

- Micheal and Scott are allowed to bump players. It happened 100 times that match.
- They didnt know his collar bone was broken
- Roo shouldnt be on the feild. He was running back into postion, into the play. Not towards the bench...

Saying that it was not a good thing to see. Was not in the spirt of the game and somewhat a poor act. All 3 blokes are gun players.

Riewoldt was just testing his shoulder a little bit once he realised how bad it was he would have gone off, it was un-sportsman like pure and simple, probably not suspendable

Unsportsman like, yep. Nothing worse though.

Hard to say a bad word about Micheal and Scott though.

Sensational players.

Well said Benty!!! You just don't see it do ya Milly. But then you're hurting just like glassboy.

OK, I'm soorry, I won't tease you any more.

Anyway, me tea's ready. Bangers an' mash tonight . I'll be thinkin' of glassboy sucking his soup up thru a straw. :)
