I hate the name.

Could it be buckleys brigade?! Haha a lot of us started out that way!

How about barrackers end?

@joffacorfe: Me and Eddie Westpac Centre discussing Barrackers End, Supporters end Active Supporters end for MCG 2015 and beyond http://t.co/NDqixLoxTS

Joffa in charge, this can only end well.

And there we would be.... dressed in our kilts and standing arm in arm, swaying to the music on the terraces.... and then chanting

“All we need is Shinji Kagawa, Shinji Kagawa, Shinji Kagawa.”
“You’ve been hit by, you’ve been struck by...a Lee Cattermole.”
“How s*** must you be, we’re playing Guly!”

"Tell me what it's like to be Collingwood,Tell me what it's like to be small,
You sold Bale and we signed Mesut Özil, Mesut Özil"

"Get that kid on from Collingwood,
He's must be better than that lad Kone,
Gerard De-something from Collingwood,
I can't pronounce it, what's his name?" (to the tune of "Amarillo")

*PLEASE READ*...Posted with permission from Eddie.. All input will be taken on board.

Was at the Westpac Centre this arvo discussing the exciting new initiative regarding the Ponsford Stand with Eddie, Justin and Chris.

The Banners will be back next year bigger than ever, bigger graphics, bigger everything.

The three bays behind the goals will be probably know as the Barrackers End ( See the barrackers are shouting ) Memberships cards / Tickets for these three bays in this area will be marked as The Barrackers End.

Nothing has been finalised as yet but we are well on the way, If anyone else has an idea for a name for this area please let us know. Eddie wants wants everyone involved in this, so your input is important.

Floggers will go across the whole three bays, Will be a huge emphasis on hand held banners and flags.

Being The Barrackers End we want to bring back the spirit of what it is like to follow this great football club.

Banner making nights in Eddies words is its going to be an event, Kids and families and players to attend, BBQ and Pizza will be on the menu.

Banner will be made at the Westpac Centre every Thursday evening.

Being The Barrackers End all will be invited to go wild with passion, To stand to cheers to support the boys.

Brand identification will be introduced right across the Ponsford Stand, The football world will be in awe.

The Cheer squad as we knew it will be no more, Its now three bays wide known as the Barrackers End.

All members who are seated in this area will receive info and updates in two weeks time.

Like Eddie said your input will be appreciated and definitely taken on board.
Cheers Smile

Thoughts?

Hmmm, my seat is in one of those bays, with a pie in one hand and a beer in the other I just can't commit to waving a flogger. Good on em but I like my seat and hope the powers that be give me some thing worth my 800 bucks to move.

needing a cheer squad like Port Adelaide's, get a bit of feeling in it at the beginning like they do with their song.

Just drove past the Westpac Centre and spotted a well dressed Joffa on his way out ... hopefully working on some form of solution to the cheer squad/active supporter area issue

David Koch said something tonight on the 7 pregame that struck a chord with me.
He stated that the supporters need to embrace anything the club put up.
This has happened with the "never tear us apart" song and scarf wave.
In my opinion, this is how a club needs to treat its supporters. A thought bubble is put up and the members/supporters take it on board or discard it.
But it must be "organic" and not overly engineered by club or the same old faces.
And that's the problem with the active supporters area. It already has club engineered expectations as to how it will be controlled and what the expectations of the people in the area should achieve.
It is doomed to failure.

It's a lot easier to get supporters to embrace things the club does when the club has gone from utter basket case to Prelim final in two years.

Heck, if Port attempted the dance troupe caper they'd probably get 50,000 fans boogieing in sync at the Adelaide Oval.

At Collingwood, we're a bunch of grumble bums these days as a result of the direction we've been going down the ladder. We have little patience for gimmicks that might be trying to distract us from the main event.

Agree - it'd be a tough ask getting an "Active Supporter Area" up at the moment. Times like this we need to keep it simple. Don't move anybody out of the Ponsford just yet. Just figure out how to improve things from what they are now (shouldn't be difficult) and evolve it from there.

Lose Smile Solutions.

Black and White cheer squad pasteurized and homogenized in pale white shadow of its former self, all for business promotion.

Character of the squad sold off.

I'm tickle pink that that the club are sponsored by innovative companies like Smile Solutions rather than some shell company trying to flog commoditised fluff on the back of some creative brand awareness campaign. (** Note)

I have often wondered about the economic rationalisation that seems to drive everything at the club these days. At what price do we do this? And it's not as if we've become mega-rich out of that attitude.

** Note: I have no financial interests in Smile Solutions :) I just know a bit about their technology from an engineering POV and am super impressed :thumbsu:
