Adam Thomson

Why? Schulz doesn't play KPD. He plays loose man in defense/4th tall. We should pick up a 195cm+ KPD in the rookie draft regardless.
because we wont have polak or schultz. and if theres an injury we might be in trouble. but agrree we should be picking up a tall (195cm+) defender anyway

Alright. Here's some stats for you. Last year Adam Thomson had the most clearances per minute of any player. He averaged 69 AFL ranking points from an average of 72 minutes, whereas Meyer averaged 28 from an average of 86 minutes. I don't have any stats from this year, but that's irrelevant because as far as I know, Meyer didn't even play. Meyer is not anywhere near better than Thomson. And I wasn't suggesting you would trade Cotchin, the point of that post was to show how stupid the trades you're suggesting would sound to a Port supporter.
How pointless are stats like that?

So the guy is that good, he has managed 28 games over 4 years, without injury, compared to Meyer's 17, honestly if Thomson was so damn good, then he would've been playing more.

Meyer is not anywhere near better than Thomson.

So you have been to Coburg games to check out his development? Unfortunately we don't have that super paper the advertiser but bigfooty was asking for Meyer to be promoted later in the season. Unfortunately terry didn't listen.

I would hope we don't trade Meyer for Thomson, danny has had a lot of injury troubles and I would love to see how he goes with an injury free pre-season. Would be happy to take a punt on Thomson for a low draft pick.

Early in his 2nd year Meyer played a ripper of a game against Geelong.

The way he played he showed us he had something special.

Since then he's been carrying a terrible, chronic, lingering hip injury that has hampered all of his best attributes.

I can understand why you Port fans would rate Thompson higher. I can fully understand. But you don't understand why Meyer has far more potential.

Meyer has shown brilliance at AFL level as a teenager before getting serious, chronic injuries.

IF he ever has a sustained pain-free run, then I am tipping Danny Meyer to become a genuine matchwinner and a serious, serious player. Elite pace, kicking is equal to Cotchin/Deledio, plenty of mongrel, natural smarts and matchwinning instincts that you just can't teach.

Meyer hasn't performed over the last 2-3 years for the same reason Coughlan and Brown haven't been able to perform - serious injuries.

Also as I understand, Danny was mis-managed by the club too.

A year ago he told the club his hip injury was worse than how they were treating him. He spoke up and they basically ignored him and made him fight for a place on-field leading to nothing but more pain and rehab.

After having major surgery earlier this year (or aroundabouts) it seems to have worked. The problem with hip injuries is it could come back at any time this pre-season and if it does, he is screwed.

Don't forget Danny will probably suffer hip pains all his life because of this, he owe it to him to give him the best possible chance of becoming a player and at least fulfilling his dreams (not at the expense of talent of course, I'm assuming he has enough).

So that is why Thompson may be a good prospect, but not as good as Meyer.

He had OP.
Oh, so shall we forget about Danny Meyers chronic hip injury he has had for the last 2 and a half years then too? Because that is the No.1 reason he has failed to play more over the last few years.
Has Meyer had a big media campaign from the Herald Sun encouraging the coach to play him? Because Thomson has had one with the Advertiser. It seems like everyone except Choco wanted him in the team.
WOW, impressive a newspaper wanted him to play, except his coach, hmm, I know who I would be trying to impress then, instead of paying off some newspaper for game time.
Anyway, Nathan Lonie played over 100 games, so if games played is the only important thing to you, you can have him for Meyer. I personally look at the quality of the games.
And Lonie was getting games ahead of Thomson in the latter parts of the year, compared to Thomson who didn't get a game in the last 6 weeks, the first 5 weeks and missed games from round 8 to round 14.

In comparing their games played it is simple, they were both drafted from the same draft, so comparing games is a perfect example of impact since draft, Thomson has 11 games on Meyer with Meyer having chronic hip injuries for the last 2 and a half years.
Thomson's played more games than Prismall, so do you think Thomson's worth more than pre-injury Prismall?
I wouldn't have thought Prismall would be worth any more than a 3rd rounder pre-injury, 2nd at best, but Prismall was also getting game time with a team that went 21-1 this year, meaning he was breaking into a team full of quality, and performing.
