Does anyone rate or give a chance on the horse Arthur Pendragon if it gets in-nice win at the valley 3000m hi weights and is by Zabeel-so should run all day.
Noticed the Adelaide Cup is a grade 2 event(always thought it was a grade 1) ?

Was downgraded this year and just by looking at the field for this year it is no wonder why. Will be lucky to hold onto Group 2 status in the future. Outside Gallic that field wouldn't look out of places with the hurdles on the track.

Exalted Time may be peaking at the right time again.
As for the standard there is no doubt it isnt good and has been gradually getting worse each year, but have a look at the Sydney Cup fields of late. When you consider how much sydney siders go on about how great their racing is, their cup is dreadful.
Anyway, it is still the Adelaide Cup and it will always be a big day for SA racing fans. Looking forward to it.

No chance here but he will win the VRC Grand National Hurdle. If you like him, you can buy him. About 80-100K is the asking price. Stablemate Pantani is my pick here, BTW.

I looked at the field and thought, geez, how bad is that......the recent Pakenham & Pinjarra Cups had better fields!

This for our "premier" racing event. Enough to make it a public holiday. about 99% of the state couldn't give a rats clacker and couldn't tell you a runner, or where the race is being held. (personally I do, however most don't)

Mate, I agree, but I'm concerned if we lose the group 2 status after a couple of years, we might lose the public holiday!!! Imagine!

That doesnt bother me, as long as we get another public holiday to make up for it!They could easily change the cup to a Saturday.

Danebar hasn't been able to run a drum in Sydney...even at the Sapphire Coast over his perfect distance, he wasn't able to do anything...and yet he's 8/1 in a 'Group 2' Adelaide Cup. South Australian racing is by far the worst in Australia.

All our best are doing us proud in other states/countries unfortunately.

Our best have gone to other states/countries and are no longer "ours".

What we have is a jockey club and a pseudo thoroughbred racing authority that is controled by the old boys network and whose motivation is not the progression of racing but rather, making racing in SA the exclusive domain of the fashionable and well-to-do.
It's these mongrels who are the only ones who profit from SA racing and are hell bent on returning racing to the "good old days" where racing was the "sport of kings".
The sadest thing is that there are to many useless and gutless people in South Australia to stand up to the fools that run racing in this state.
The Adelaide Cup is a jumpers flat and will become a Listed race within 5 years but that's OK because Ploubidis and the other flagellators, will shift it to Vic Pk. as a twilight meeting and run it over 2000 meters and " it'll be to short a distance to run it as a ghastly hurdle race ".

Stand up to the idiots running racing and boot them out! After all they have booted out our best horses, trainers, bloodstock and owners.

our racing is behind wa at the minute.

.....and Tasmania is about to overtake us.
Lucky the Northern Territory is not a state ! ( well in name only)

after seeing the field for the cup - and seeing what we had running around today, I'd almost agree.

BTW, does Tazzie have a meet on a saturday???

They'll always be ours. You make some good points though. However, I am in favour of Vic Park being kept.

WA's organisation and structural planning is terriffic. They're ahead of South Australia, NT, Tasmania and are following Queensland very closely, too. In terms of prizemoney, their Saturday pools are $45,000 per race, which is actually ahead of Queensland and not far behind Victoria and NSW.

Although those highweight races can be hard to gauge, Arthur Pendragon ran the 3000m four seconds quicker than Singstubbs. I know this may be due to the tempo (or lack of) in each individual race, but that is one hell of a difference.

Personally times don't mean much to me. Never has, never will and I go alright on the punt. Classic case in point... Maybe Better v Zipping, previous runs leading up to Melbourne Cup both ran over 2500m, MB was exactly 3 seconds quicker than Zipping. That didn't stop Mark Read plonking 250k each way on Zipping and they fought it out for 3rd place. Plus Maybe Better has a 3.5 kilo turnaround on the day too compared to their last runs.

Except Zipping ran at MV (Cup)& M Better (Saab) ran at Flemington?
Tough to compare times at different tracks.

Did you mean M Better & Efficient who both ran over 2500 at Flemington on Derby Day?

seth

Yes, but 4 seconds is a huge difference, regardless.

Last year's winner, Exalted Time will finish in the top 3 and in my estimation, is definately the one to beat.
Gallic is an exceptional horse but has "dickie" legs and Danebar is the best of the rest of a woeful lot. NO DISRESPECT INTENDED TO ANY OF THE OWNERS WHO HAVE HORSES IN THE CUP.
I wish I had one going 'round!

my picks for the day:

R1: Racers Run

R2: Tramuntana

R3: Licenced to Chill

R4: Miss Polanas

R5: Reshuffles

R6: Skiddaw Peak

R7: Danebar

R8: Pencelaron (cant believe its listed at 30/1)

R9: Wildlife Girl
