FROM THE SYDNEY MORNING HERALD

AFL club Collingwood has appointed Geelong assistant coach Adrian Fletcher to its coaching staff for next season.

Fletcher played more than 200 AFL games for Geelong, St Kilda, Brisbane and Fremantle in his 13-year career and spent 2004 as an assistant to Geelong coach Mark Thompson in the Cats' march to the preliminary final.

Fletcher started his coaching career at Collingwood as a development coach in 2002 and 2003 while playing for the Magpies' VFL affiliate Williamstown.

Magpies football manager Neil Balme said Collingwood's players and coaches were looking forward to having Fletcher back at the club.

"He has a very strong knowledge of the game and has worked extremely well with our players in the past," Balme said.

Fletcher will join Collingwood's current assistant coaches Bradley Gotch, Gavin Brown and Guy McKenna working with head coach Mick Malthouse.

No real loss, I'd forgotten that he was even involved with the club, but I always kind of liked Adrian Fletcher. Thought he was a little stiff to get moved on by the club when he was a player, but then he wasn't going to match it with the Bairstows, Couchs etc.
