On Tuesday afternoon it was confirmed both matches set to take place in Queensland for Opening Round have been called off due on advice from the Queensland government and Stadiums Queensland.

“Out of an abundance of caution and after ongoing communication with the Queensland Government, the Bureau of Meteorology and Stadiums Queensland, the AFL made the decision now to ensure the health and safety of clubs, players, officials and – importantly - the wider southeastern Queensland and northern NSW community remains the priority,”
the AFL said in a statement.

“The AFL will announce the alternate schedule for these matches as soon as possible as we continue to work with clubs and venues on possible scenarios. The rescheduled matches won’t be played during Opening Round.”
There it is. "On advice from Qld government".
AFL has learned from Covid. Make it the decision of government and you're not responsible for any backlash.

Brisbane are now favourites to lose their first game of the season, which is nice too.

The Cats get to host Freo!
Considering Perth to Geelong and vice versa is one of the harder road trips, I find it quite interesting that 5 of the last 6 games between Freo and Geelong have been won by the away team

It's an underrated rivalry, they have often put on a good game for quite some time now.

And if we only get one trip to Perth in a year, I prefer Freo in Perth and WCE at KP

Yeah don't get me wrong, that's a 50/50 game coming up.

But I had Brisbane/Geelong 70/30 their way.

We rarely get an easy game in Geelong against Freo.

ALFRED FORECAST CHANGES (WORSE)! A cyclone warning remains in place across SEQLD & NENSW from the Sunshine Coast to Grafton (yellow line). Share & tag family & friends for this latest info

TC Alfred is a cat 2 winds to 130km/h located 300kms east of the Gold Coast moving WEST slowly. Due to competing steering winds, model data has delayed the original landfall which is now expected on Friday - HOWEVER - the system is expected to keep coming west today and tonight and be very close to the coast (with damaging winds heavy rain) then stalling, wobbling or becoming very slow moving against the coast during Friday. He is forecast to eventually cross and head inland near Brisbane. Very heavy rain on Saturday too!

This slow movement on the coast causes potentially bigger issues - longer exposure to the damaging winds, longer exposure to abnormal high tides & damaging surf, prolonged rainfall leading to flooding!

it's actually getting better btw. It's expected to be downgraded to a cat 1 before hitting brisbane and a tropical low when it hits brisbane. Lots of flooding could happen though.

Oh man I was so excited for tonight, fired up the FOXTEL and everything.

Good luck to everyone in the path of Alfred, hopefully it doesn’t do too much serious damage.
