I'm about 99% sure that 98 was only PC, then 99 was the first on PSX.

This was my recollection. Though the '99 on the PSX was basically the same game as the '98 on PC. I vaguely recall '99 on the PC was meant to have fighting, but I could be wrong as I never played that one.

Yes 98 was pc only. 99 was pc and PS. The PC had two versions essentially for 99. It had the graphics card version with rich graphics and stadia and a version that the graphics were much more like the 98 version. The PS version of 99 was more like PC 98

I had 98 on the PC. Shane Crawford was on the box. Loved the game. Commentary was good too. The ground looked like it was a kilometre long. And you could adjust the size of the players. I had players the size of ants taking hangers on Spider Burton

AFL 99 on PC was a little heartbreaking. On first play it looked and felt like a AAA title - great commentary with Bruce and Leigh and you could even configure where your players were positioned (e.g. extra man back, Pagan's paddock etc). But then like so many AFL games when you got the hang of the gameplay there wasn't much there to keep you hooked. You could pretty much take a speccy whenever you felt like it and goals were very easy to come by.

My fave part in 98 or 99 was how hard everyone sprinted back to the middle after a goal was kicked, umps included.

It was hilarious.

Almost forgot - there was fighting too! You could pick a fight and it switched to a boxing mini game complete with uppercuts and head butts. I can't believe I forgot that, and I can't believe the AFL approved it's inclusion.

happened one time when i was playing the AFL 99 demo to death (Adelaide v North - 98 GF) ... I was like "what the hell? they can fight each other ?!?!"
not sure what triggered it and it only happened once for me

There was a 'start a fight' button if I remember correctly. If you 'won' the opposition player might be injured, and if you 'lost' you might get reported or something like that. Crazy. Personally I could care less, but from an AFL / publisher perspective, what were they thinking.

Back when Football was Football.

Does anyone still have the old EA Sports patch for AFL 98 (PC) where they fixed the interchange bug and added the 50 metre line???
