As all people know all positions in football have a certain role or purpose. eg. you dont just play in the forward pocket you play deep in the forward line while staying wide and when the ball comes to the full forward you collect it if he doesn't etc. I reckon we should try to come up with the 'role' of each position or what the person put there is supposed to do.

Ill post the answers here-

BP- Generally defensive players used on a small forward. Also often do the kick-ins or zone into the pockets to receive the kick.

FB- Big gorillas who play on other big gorillas, primarily used to defend the surrounding air-space as effectively as possible.

CHB- More aerobic then your FB, they have the thankless task of having to follow the CHF on all of his 50-60m leads. Also often used as a general in defence or a designated kicker.

HBF- generally a hard running outside midfielder with pace who will be the first man that the ball is entrusted to when a team is exiting its defensive 50 and setting up attacking plays. More or less a quaterback...

W- Flashy types who run and bounce along the outer wings, usually with penetrating kicks into the forward line. Will also rotate through the middle on occasions.

C- Big-bodied in-and-under player who dishes the ball out to teammates.

HFF- The link between the forward line and the middle, often leading up onto the wing and delivering to the bigger forwards. Usually also a midfield rotator.

CHF- Generally big players who use their athletic prowess to gain advantage. Generally considered the most important position on the field.

FF-Stays deep, leads out of the square as the no.1 target.

FP- Crumbers. Usually have excellent pace and good 'goal smarts'. Also used to add defensive pressure when the ball hits the deck and/or when the opposition are rebounding.

RM-Generally used to contest ball-ups and throw-ins, and the more athletic ruckmen are also used as extra forward options.

RR- Outside runners the centre generally tries to get the ball to for run and carry.

R-
I/C- 'Impact' players, replacements and spuds who make up the numbers all generally start on the bench.

Thanks guys me and some mates are very interested in the opinions which will certainly come out here.

(BTW i think this is on the right board?)

No, it should be on the [x] board.:D

It really depends on the team because of the different strategies.
FF-Stays deep, leads out of the square as the no.1 target.

And that's all I can be bothered doing as I'm too tired to think properly.:thumbsu:

Edit: To be serious, yes I think it's on the right board.

imo the half back flanker nowadays is generally a hard running outside midfielder with pace who will be the first man that the ball is entrusted to when a team is exiting its defensive 50 and setting up attacking plays. More or less a quaterback...

yeah... Or not. Well I'm on an iPod and it was hard enough typing the OP as it was. So yeah unless you wanna answer the question I don't think your comment has much meaning mate.

A rather poorly thought out response below:

CHB- More aerobic then your FB, they have the thankless task of having to follow the CHF on all of his 50-60m leads. Also often used as a general in defence or a designated kicker.

HBF- Very loose player who is often used as the link out of defense. Accountability isn't always a great strength, and many of them can struggle with taggers.

W- Flashy types who run and bounce along the outer wings, usually with penetrating kicks into the forward line. Will also rotate through the middle on occasions.

RM- (I'll assume this is the third centreman? In which case, see RR).

RR- Outside runners the centre generally tries to get the ball to for run and carry.

R- Generally used to contest ball-ups and throw-ins, and the more athletic ruckmen are also used as extra forward options.

I think the 'My Footy' board may have been more appropriate. Not sure.

I'm pretty much in agreeance with most of your descriptions except I no longer see a differential point between the ruck rover, rover and centreman ... all inside midfielders (with at least one a run-with).

Hard to be completely accurate as each team will approach positional roles differently but in general a good summation :thumbsu:

B: Negator - - Rock - - Sweeper
HB: Hard Nut - - Key To The Defence - - Rebounder
C: Showpony - - Nuggety hard-worker - - Cheap Possession Receiver
HF: Buzzes Around - - Straightener-Upper - - Forward-Line Pressure
F: Mr Magic - - Focal Point - - Big Body
R: Lumbering Dinosaur - - Tagger - - In and Under
I/C: Lazy - - Speed Merchant - - Game-Breaker - -Cult Hero
