After trading out that horrible Niamh McLaughlin last week, I think I'm going to bring in that wonderful Niamh McLaughlin this week. Probably Koenen to Niamh, Clarke down for cash and bring in a low BE player to hopefully keep the cash genning (unless there's a forced trade).
Which trade? I feel like Woodland is just way better than Molloy right now, but does going Mclaughlin from Kearney make up for it?

I think so.
I guess McLaughlin should score well as long as they don't move her forward again. So maybe I'd go the first one and cash SSP in next week.

Who to captain this week? Noffy scored well against North last year, so maybe Noffy?
Anyway, my trades currently are:
Koenen to Watson (can't stand having Koenen atm)
Zanker to Stone (slight upgrade if Stone keeps playing mid)
Brancatisano to Reidy (was going to wait on cashing out BrainCat, but want to upgrade Koenen now).
Can only do Zanker to Hodder if I cash out Fleur Davies as well this week, and I'm leaving her to next week.

Very, very temped to take a bit of a swing this week.
Ain't no prizes for finishing 300th, and while I've had a great season, might be time to swing. Here's the current situation:
Option 1:
Cash out Park, Molloy -> Woodland, Everist -> sub $730K defender
Option 2:
Cash out Park, downgrade Everist to sub $470K defender, Nanscawen -> Gardiner.
Option 1 is nice and safe, and makes sense, but I don't feel like it's gunna propel me up the ranks. Option 2 is risky, Molloy ain't looking great, but she's got the cieling and every game is an elimination final for the Swans. There's no standout defenders at pretty much any price point, and they're all flaky.

I'm thinking Noffy VC with a pretty low bar as my other captaincy options (Bowers, Garner) and playing at the same time.
VC is mainly injury insurance tbh
I made a bunch of crazy moves in R10 last year, figuring I was no chance of a hat if I just did the safe things. Tanked my spot to ~250th. If I'd done nothing, I would have finished just outside the top-100. In hindsight, I wish I'd done the safe things. This may be one of those things where alt-universe me wishes they'd taken a swing.
I really don't like your second option. The DEFs under $470K are nasty for on-field this time of year. I feel like you're going to lose more points from them than you gain off getting Nanscawen to Gardiner. I'd focus on getting Everist up. If you're lucky, you could get a decent POD score from Nanscawen, which would help you climb ranks.
4 of my mids all play at the same time, so no idea who to VC: Riddell, Garner, Noffy, Bowers?

I'll try Ham. Not much chance she'll score enough by the time the other games start, but that's my best option I think. Wish I had Gardiner.

I'm blinded by my premo defenders dropping 30's and 20's out of nowhere, it's driven me bonkers. Part of me is all 'if they're gunna drop 35 anyway, may as well get the same score from a rook for half the price'. That and the fact the obvious in is Heath if named, who seems to be finding new and whackier ways to injure herself each week.
Can just (just!) get Everist up to Watson by cashing out Dunlop and Park which will be the likely play. Or can sideways her to Thomas and roll the dice on some cashgen trades. That's really the decision for this week.
(We'll pretend I put that together to be helpful and not just because I thought the Gardiner column was funny.)
I'm probably just going to loop Gardiner into Noffy. You could make an argument for the North girls (since Adelaide have given up big scores to premos this year) or Bowers against the weaker opponent.
Using a dartboard is a legitimate way to pick a captain this week.
The way I see it, if Kearney or Niamh drops a 30 or a 24, that's not on me. That's them/their coaches/bad luck. If I get a 25 out of Issy Bacon at D5, that's on me.
Of course, my lack of risk taking may be why I'm outside hat range for the third year running.
Thomas getting out-intercepted by Cleaver two weeks running has me cooled on her. WC aren't getting demolished as frequently either, so Charlie is not getting quite as much off kick-ins as she used.
I'd jump at Watson. We do have North coming up soon, but that could mean extra kick-ins for Serene since they're probably going to score on us a lot.

Looking at it, I can just barely afford
Molloy -> Stone or AOL F5
Everist -> Watson D2
Steele-Park -> Wakfer D6
Stone seems to have CBA's back, Alberton isn't Frankston so there should be plenty of scoring, but I hate the TOG. BE of 36 is very nice though.
AOL is AOL. BE of 41, she isn't needing goals to score ok-ish. But it's a tougher matchup.
My 50:50:90 rule is gunna be in full force here, no matter what I choose, 90% chance I get it wrong.

Had a look back at my captain choices and have only picked my highest score as captain twice.
- 3rd, 1st, 2nd, 1st, 6th, 4th, 11th, 5th, 4th
If I'd just put the C on Noffy every week and not worried about it, I'd be up 256 points.
Thought someone mentioned that Gay went off with knee soreness during the game and ended up coming back on to still score 87
Great. Now I'm going to have to check how I've done. BRB.
Not as bad as I thought:
3rd (Noffy), 5th (Noffy), 2nd (Noffy), 2nd (Riddell +5), 4th (Riddell -59), 3rd (Noffy), 11th (Garner -66), 3rd (Noffy), 1st (Gardiner +28)
Total: -92 vs just setting and forgetting Noffy every week. Garner's 69 and missing out on Noffy's 165 were the big misses.
I think this just reinforces my decision to go Gardi into Noffy.
MORE EDIT: I just thought to actually calculate my captain's average, and it's 115.1, which is lower than all my mids averages except for Garner. So, not only would I have a better score if I'd just set and forget with Noffy, I'd also be ahead if I'd set and forget with Bowers, Gardiner or Riddell.
