This thread is a query I'm hoping someone can answer for me. 24.6 possessions per game as the leading goalkicking in a premiership team. Has it ever been done before? I have a feeling it would be an all-time record. What a season he had and when you consider that he played out the finals series with such a significant injury, he probably would have had an even better season statistically if he'd remained fit.

Off topic, I actually think Didak is underrated (I know he is highly rated). The guy is a serious gun and would be close to top 10 in the comp. Go Dids! Go Pies!

SUPERSTAR.:thumbsu::D

In every form and way, the man is a champion footballer, and anyone who wants to argue that, step up, and I will give you a history lesson.

He is now, deservedly, one of the all time great Collingwood footballers, and can be mentioned in the same breath as Daicos, Coventry, Richards, Rose, Shaw (Heath or Tony) as Collingwood "gods".

I have proudly worn the number 4 on my back since 2002, and I am so glad that the great man won a premiership, he, as much as any of the other 21 heroes, deserved it.:thumbsu:

As for the record of average disposals and leading goalscorer, sorry mate, I have no idea, I revel in the moment, not the past, especially now.:D:thumbsu:

For the "stats" question though, you could ask these guys, they answer just about any question it seems;

Hopefully will rack up his 200th game late next year. He has played 17 finals now, as well as 4 Grand finals. Since 2007 he has averaged over 20 possessions and a goal in each of the 10 finals he has played in.

Gun!

Leigh Matthews 20.09 (1983)
Mark Harvey 19.79 (1985)
Peter Daicos 16.4 (1990)
Darren Jarman 14.9 (1998)

No reliable records before then.

You'd suggest possible post WWII contenders would be:
Sheldon 1979
Bartlett 1974
Ridley 1960
Barassi 1959
Rose 1953

I think outside of Harvey, Ridley and Sheldon all these are out and out champions. These three were also pretty fair players.

fair point.

Although i suppose possessions don't mean as much these days.

Gary Ablett kicked 44 goals this year averaging 31.5 disposals....but of course was not a premiership player.

last year in his premiership year, he kicked 27 goals and average 34 disposals.

However, he has never been the leading goal-kicker.

Didak this year only kicked 41 goals...but it was still enough to be our leading goal kicker.

Not bad for a short, front-running squib who can't mark above his head!!!

On track to end up with 250+ games, 400 goals, 3-4 AA, 1+ flags, maybe a Copeland, a pretty awesome highlights reel and No Convictions. Hard to argue with those stats, the bloke is a legend and a great of the club.

Bloke is now a champion

Might not be the toughest players around but what he does with his feet is all the counts one of the most amazing footballers to wtach when on his A-Game

Preety stiff not to be a 4 time AA two years injury has got him so should be AA again next year

Would like to see him spend a little bit more time forward next year as his getting older could get 60 easily

he already has one :thumbsu:

Bartlett in 1980 with 85 goals and an average of 19 possessions a game, plus the premiership medallion and a Norm Smith. Didak is a gun and will go down as one of the legends of the club!

And to top it off Dids doesn't get afflicted by tunnel vision and color blindness within scoring range like 'Hungry" Bartlett did. Bartlett pass to an opponent within scoring range?? Not the faintest hope in hell.

I agree 100%, but you have to hand it to KB to be playing that sort of footy at the age of 33 is a mighty effort. My favourite part is the fact that of KB's 474 possessions for the season only 59 were handballs, which is about 50 more than i expected :o

Agreed mate he was a great player but I'm surely grateful that my income wasn't dependent on kicking goals on the Richmond forward line whilst he was there!!!!!!!!!:eek:;)

Lol so true, I'd imagine Cloke would kick about 4 goals a season playing with Bartlett.

Matthews was my guess as well but he obviously didn't do it post 1983. I realise Didak only kicked 41 goals but he still has a leading goalkicker award and possibly now an alltime record? I'm determined to find this out.

For the record on Dids.
Twice All Australian
Copeland Trophy winner
Premiership player
Leading goalkicker award
Best on-field dancer in the league
Best street rep in the AFL and is the most "connected"

He's building up a fair CV. Stevens was still better though, Collingwood were just arrogant and should have landed the big fish

It's a unique stat and Didak is definitely the only player to have averaged as many possessions and still win the leading goalkicker award in a premiership team in the past 30 years. The only other one that comes within 5 possessions outside of Bartlett is Carey in 1996 with 82 goals and 486 posessions from 25 games. Just goes to show really just how good a season Didak had as well as how much we share the load around!
