After a year in the YVMDFL coaching Mt Evelyn, former Bombers little man Alan Ezard will return to the western suburbs to coach Pascoe Vale in the EDFL next year.

Geez i wish he'd return home to coach Broadford, they need a bloke Alan's calibre and credential to get the young kids up and firing.

Ezard's efforts over at St. Albans a couple of years back (got them to the WRFL Division 1 Grand Final I think it was, certainly consecutive finals series) would look good on the resume.

They won one flag under Ezard.

I heard a whisper he collected close to $100,000 as a result.

I was talking about St Albans.

Apparantly gave him quite a big bonus after they won the flag.

St Albans are almost fully supportered by pokie machines. Plenty of cash and much of the local community visits there.

I doubt any EDFL club could cover that sort of cash.

Greenvale might come close

I heard a whisper that Ezard is getting $10k more than rooney so they must have a bit more money.

Don't forget the 3 or 4 flags he won at Nth. Ballarat when they were in the Ballarat League just before they moved to the VFL in 1996.

is he the ex Sunshine Kangaroo's coach?

Yes the ex sunshine coach. News has it that the club (sunshine) told rooney they were advertising the position, he decided not to reapply. From what i hear that is the same thing that happened at pascoe vale, they advertised his position and he decided not to reapply.

He is a great coach...played under him for 6 years at st.albans.. they will do very well next year with alan coaching

I don't think so. Without any research, I can give you the names of 15 imported players that played in the GF. They would be struggling to have 3 or 4 ex juniors in their team.
Be interesting if/when the EDFL introduce the points rule to senior teams. They would struggle to get a team on the ground. For those that are unaware, the EDFL are looking at capping imports, to provide junior kids with opportunity.
Each team has 44 point.
Home grown Junior = 1 point
Home grown junior returning from VFL,or import with club over 5 years = 2 point.
Import from another league = 2 points
Import from VFL/SANFL/WAFL = 3 points
Import from AFL 4 point.

May not turn out exactly, but this is the starting point.

Why would Ezard take on the job at an ordinary club like Pascoe Vale?

Surely a man of his credentials could land an A-Grade job!

I've spoken to Alan and he seems genuinely interested in the promotion of grass-roots clubs and helping them build from the ground up.
That's why he took on the Mt Evelyn job in the YVMDFL this year, even though it was an hour's drive from his Greenvale residence. Perhaps he's thinking the same about the Pascoe Vale job: let's start again.
