Interesting. Do you think we would be interested? 190cm and 90kg (roughly) and from what I have seen of him play he seems to play good accountable footy. Can he play as a small lock down defender?

He is a lock down defender, just never gets beaten and is severly underrated, players like him are never going to be AAs or attract the big bucks and journos will always look past them when looking for a post match interview etc etc, He's an unfashionable footballer who gets the job done and would be in every teams best 18 IMO, would hate to lose this bloke considering we'll get stuff all in return. :(

Errr no, he really wouldn't. If it wasn't for Tarrant, Reid, Davis etc Toovey would get shown up really bad.

He certainly wouldn't get a game at Hawthorn, Brent Guerra does that role with skills Toovey doesn't even understand.

God no. Average player, we already have Roberton.

average player?, average players don't cement a spot in one of the best back 6s (if not the best) in the business, if he's injured he isn't asked to come back through the 2s, that should tell you all you need to know.

?

How do they make Toovey defend well one on one?

Dumb trolls aside, he's a solid defender. Rarely gets beaten one on one and generally beats his opponent. Kicking has improved from terrible to solid.

Poor man's Dale Morris I'd say.

This is actually spot on. Toovey isn't an AA superstar but every team needs a player like him. He's a no-name Mr Reliable who actually locks down but provides something the other way, and his kicking skills have definitely improved. Over the last couple of years I've gone from wondering why the hell he got a game for the Pies to thinking it would be great if JVB had turned out even half like him.

At the very least, Toovey would be an upgrade on our current BP/HBF's, and is really the type of player we are missing back there.

At this stage, Roberton is a poor man's Alan Toovey. Might prove otherwise in time though.

But what would he cost? Hopefully nothing more than a 4th rounder (or JVB himself :D).

Average players do cement a spot in the best defences. Raph Clarke St. Kilda backline 09/10

I keep thinking he reminds of steven Dodd. Good lock down defender with ordinary skills. Maybe not as ordinary!

I'd say that's about right. Roberton may yet have a bigger upside, I think Roberton could be more flexible for example, but Tooveys a proven defender. I think his type always look beter in a good teem, but all in all I'd take him if it didn't involve selling the farm.

BTW, he's a good deal better than Dodd I think. A much better decision maker, to start with.
