In my opinion, Albert Proud is just the player we need from this draft. Here is what mojo wrote about him in his draft profiles. He also should be available around pick 7

Midfielder

179cms and 80kgs.
6/9/88
Mt Gravatt, Queensland

Very impressive at the U18 Champs and to me was the pick of the Queenslanders on show there despite Urquhart being named All Australian. Even more impressive at the carnival games for Division 2 prior to the U18 Championships.

Very hard at the ball and a physical player who seems to relish the contact. Also classy with the ball in hand and has nice footwork and a well rounded game. Is a long kick and carries the ball well and can play as a linkman when needed.
Has good instincts when to go in for the ball and when to hang off the pack. Got the flair of a lot of Aboriginal players but also that physical edge to his game.

So he is a long kicking, skilful, tough on baller. Not a burst player but someone who seems to possess good endurance and the work rate. Prepared to chase and tackle but with the ball he kicks long, carries it and uses it with precision.
Basically has all the tools to become a very good midfielder in the AFL.
He is fairly short and a few cms extra would be great but I can’t see it being a problem in the future. Developed body and maybe not as much physical improvement in him as some others but he is quick and classy and hard as you would like. When delivering the ball into the forward 50 he was silky and composed. Good hands in close and has a fine overall game.
Nothing lacking in his game and is the complete package.

I am prepared to overlook him losing his cool in the game against Tasmania and think it is a bit out of character and will not be an issue in the future with lacking discipline.

I am creaming myself with the thought of Proud, Varcoe, Stokes, Ablett, Bartel, Prismall all feeding it to Ablett and Hawkins in the future

Have you seen him play?

I'd like to hear what Turbocat or Geecat know about Gary Moss from WA, I was watching Metro v WA last night and he caught my eye along with Vaseleski and number 18 (the young Muslim lad) from Metro. All silky quick left footers.

Nah I haven't seen him play, only going by what other people have wrote about him on the draft board who have seen him play

Proud is not too bad, would suit us. However there is a couple of guys to look out for. A roughy for a last round pick is a young guy playing in Adelaide named Zac Miller. Has a big engine and is like Stokes, not overly quick but is just a go-getter type of player.

We definitely need to pick well with our first pick, a quick midfielder that has a long kick is required, IMO.

Brownlow Medal winning ruckman from WA who may be a little old now to take over from King!!!

Gary Moss is a skilled left footer who captained WA in the recent U18 Champs. Needs to put on size, but has good speed and has lovely skills typical of most left footers. Would be a good pickup for a second round pick if Connors or Schmidt were already taken

Thanks, I have changed now :o

Bachar Houli. I was impressed by him too. I'm hoping he'll be around at our 2nd pick.

Will be interested to see how Houli tests at the draft camp for endurance. His injury history may be of some concern. His upside is that he is a great decision maker, is very evasive and just has a tendency to "make things happen". Runs to the right places etc.

Ready made player who could step straight in. Probably prefer others like Moss or Schmidt because their potential for improvement may be greater.

I like Moss, but he probably won't figure into our calculations. Neat skills, can find the ball, and looks to be an onfield leader, but speed isn't outstanding and size is a concern. I guess, at his size, you have to be quite the prospect to be selected, let alone picked up early, which he isn't. Wouldn't really consider him with our 2nd Rounder (#25), but would certainly look at him with one of our later picks/rookie selections.

I'm not Vasilevski's biggest fan. Like Moss, can find the pill and run and carry abit, but kicking is scrappy too often.

Haven't made my mind up on Houli yet. The pro's to his game are very appealing: natural footballer, class and flair, will find time and space, will be physical when required, clean hands, neat kick, knows where the goals are. However, there is quite the query on his body and fitness (which would really inhibit his ability to play anywhere else but on a pocket/flank at AFL), and to a lesser extent, his pace and accountability. Whoever picks him up will have to come away happy with his medical and convinced his battle managing his weight/fitness won't be a concern in the future. Ideally, he should figure into our calculations as far as picks are concerned though.

What do you think of Proud? Do you think he'd be good for us?

May not be outstanding but is more than adequate. Would be quicker than all our onballers bar Tenace and Byrnes.

Pace is decent, but generally speaking, it needs to be outstanding for a player his size.

In any case, his strength isn't his speed, nor is it his ability to run and carry (though he isn't adverse to doing so). If he gets picked up in the main draft, it will be due to his stoppage work, his genuine football smarts, and the way he carries himself out on the field. He has alot of good attributes and skills, but what he lacks weighs pretty heavily against him. Like I said, he's a guy I'd look at with a late pick or a rookie selection (definitely the latter, you would think).

A few have mentioned speed on this thread, we have that, unfortunately their skills aren't good at pace. Proud has good skills, so has Jetta. Does anyone have a rundown on him ??

So it will be interesting to see who we get.

What I want to see is more time put into Gamble. Anyone see the passes he put on the chest of Ablett from 50, nice. Whilst he was at pace too. He will be a quality player if given the chance.

I like Proud.

I think my view on Selwood is well voiced here already, but if he wasn't available, or we were sold to selecting another midfielder, Proud would probably be my man (certainly ahead of someone like Jetta). One thing to keep in mind with Proud though is that he is not the typical indigenous game-breaker. I get the feeling many are after that player with our pick; Proud isn't that type of kid.

More physical than he is dashing, but has the necessary class and smoothness to compliment it. Good kick, adequate (but not outstanding) pace, clean hands, and generally makes good decisions. More of a centre-square player than a game-breaking wingman, though he isn't adverse to being the ball-carrier. His height and body/fitness status might be a cause for concern though.

I agree with you regarding his strengths but I reckon he is a monty to go either late 2nd round to early 3rd round.

tenace has pass but can't kick [judd has pass and can kick] there hard to find'lets hope we find one

I have never seen young Albert but from everyones descriptions he sounds like a Shaun Burgoyne type of player. Would this be an accurate assessment?
