This one actually looks the goods. It's been a while coming, i remember it was shelved so they could focus on Aliens vs Predator which was a let down. But this one is released for February next year. I think the most exciting part is that i believe it's a sequel of sorts to the actual movie Aliens. In the game they got back to the LV-426 planet after it was flattened by Ripley in the movie. They've put some great attention to detail in a lot of other aspects as well like the weapons.

Have heard pretty average things about it from most of the press that have seen and played the game (some are big horror fans).

Personally I'm not sold on it, I don't think they will create the right balance of fear and action and it'll just be too much action.

To put my post into context: IMO Aliens is one of the best films of all time, and the xenomorph is the GOAT movie monster to hunt. The Thing not far behind.

I've been following this game for a while now, (2,3 delays..) I even bought that pile of shit AVP (for $20) to scratch my xeno killing itch the wait has been so long.

The game has four player campaign bro-op and a stack of alien v marine multiplayer modes, all brimming with weapons, xenos and locations from the movies. It has weapon customisation, unlocks, a stack of different xenos etc.

I'm not expecting anything but mediocre reviews, but for anyone who wants to blast some bugs with 3 bros and then take it to the xeno scum in the multi, it will deliver.

If you're a fan of any or all of: Aliens, co-op, unique multiplayer, you should be looking into this. Day one for me.

I'm no Aliens fan (didn't like the films) but the game was actually pretty good. The controls were very good (similar to COD's) and they were responsive like COD's, which is rare in a shooter when compared to COD

Graphics were good and the weapon choices seemed fun. Played against a Pro gaming team at the Expo. We actually went pretty well. But they were the Aliens, so they didn't have weapons vs our Marines

Collectors $118

I care! :D

That looks fantastic though. Can see myself giving that a good run through when the game comes out.

What a horrible trailer. Was planning on pre ordering collector's edition this weekend but that trailer was so bad it has put some doubt in my mind.

Even if the campaign is shit there's bro-op though and the multi looks good at least.

Yeah there was an article somewhere i read that i tried to post here a week or 2 ago, but it wouldn't let me due to the bug the site had. But i've since forgotten who wrote it, but anyway they were kind of really sitting on the fence about the game. It had some flaws as well as good parts to the game. Sounds like it could be hit or miss really. But it should be better than the AvP game that was out a few years ago.

Saw a decent amount of gameplay on the IGN live stream.

-Campaign honestly looks pretty meh. AI seemed dumb, acid bloods does nothing.. it was hilarious watching the player walk through a giant acid puddle half a second after a xeno was killed and NOTHING HAPPENED. I don't expect it to burn a hole in the floor, but make it give damage for 3-5 seconds until it evaporates like AVP did...

-Game has an "ultimate badass" mode which is zero HUD hardcore. Nice.

-Customisation looks pretty thorough and good.

-Smartgun is not available in your loadout. It's a powerful pick up instead. Huge disappoint at this.... was going to rock Smartgun as my main. I always use heavy support weapons.

-Multi looked boss as hell. For balancing, all modes consist of two rounds. Once as Marine, once as Alien. Team with highest combined score wins. Marine play looks awesome, you have to stick together and watch each other's back. The non generic TDM modes are going to rock. Would be amazing with a four man crew all mics working as a team to take down the xenos.. someone with the motion tracker up calling out locations... someone carrying the sentry turret.. everyone covering a bro while he cuts through a door, shooting Aliens off each other and reviving etc Sadly won't happen because nobody is buying this.

I've already pre ordered collector's edition so I'm going down with this ship either way. Can see myself smashing the multi to pieces until GOW drops.

RE: The acid blood. Haha yeah, i remember seeing that in one of the first trailers that came out for the game, weird they didn't look into fixing it. I'm sure they want the multiplayer to be beast though to keep people playing the game, despite the flaws in the campaign. It would be a shame if it was dead after a few months, but the way you put it, they could be onto something really nice.

Finished the campaign. This is a bad game bumped up to mediocre purely due to Aliens nostalgia. Strictly speaking in terms of singleplayer campaign, the game is a fail. Hopefully the multi is good, and co-op might be able to salvage the horrible campaign. I guess we'll see.

Cons:
-Lip synching is completely off throughout the entire game. It's laughable
-Majority of the game is extremely linear. I have NFI how 4 person co-op is supposed to work in this corridor shooter
-Alien AI is mostly dumb as dogshit. They mindlessly charge at you waiting to get shot at, sometimes they stand there not doing anything. Lurkers are okay, but there's hardly any of them
-1/4 of the game is shooting mercenaries. WHAT THE ****? Shooting other people in an aliens game... baffling. You want to know the worst thing? They're more of a threat than the aliens. Yep, in a game called Aliens: Colonial Marines the aliens are the least of your concerns. All of the sections with mercs are pure garbage because the shooting is clearly not designed for it, AND NOBODY BOUGHT THIS GAME TO SHOOT SOLDIERS. Stupid, ridiculous, fail
-Cannot believe how shit the last level is
-Bad texture pop in
-Forgettable story
-Meh characters. The player and NPC captain look like they both used the exact same model, shows how much effort was put in
-Sound aside, the shooting isn't really that satisfying

Pros:
-Sound. The weapons, alien screams, score all sound exactly like the film
-There are certain points where some strong atmosphere is developed with the lighting and art design
-There's a few sections, notably the Hadley's Hope ones... where the game delivers and is fun
-Customisation is decent
-An inspired section in the sewers was a highlight
-There's still multi I guess....

The campaign is a complete off the shelf "generic fps shooter" with a coat of Aliens paint on it. Gearbox must have short little stubby arms, or they don't even care enough to reach upwards because they took from a very low shelf at that. For the amount of time this was in the cooker, it really does bring nothing to the table. This could have been something special... (sigh). Cements my view that Gearbox are a poor dev.

The most annoying thing of all, is that I expected this. I knew this was going to happen, and I still rewarded Gearbox's mediocrity with my money due to my weakness to the Aliens IP.

EDIT: Oh, and the acid blood does NOTHING. It stops you from regenerating health for a couple of seconds, that's it.

Let me know how multiplayer goes because I think this is the games selling point. Won't get my copy until tuesday

Gameplay vids looked horrible and looks like you confirmed this! Will there ever be a half decent Aliens game? Can only dream....

so, you came on here to spoil the party for those of us who can't play it yet?;)
I didn't read your post in full...could you have at least waited till tuesday?

All the stuff about being canon, and the "true sequel to Aliens" is all bullshit. The story is a joke and the writing is embarrassing. One thing in particular is IMO the worst piece of writing I've seen in a video game. You'll know it when you hear it.

All the stuff about being squad based, tactics, dynamic alien Ai etc All lies. If anyone remembers that extended 10 minute sequence from an E3 or so ago that looked decent, that sequence is not in the game.

Horrible animations

You can clip right through NPC's like they are made of air

The aliens are pussies. You can knock a leaping alien away with a melee attack...

You only get to use a smart gun like twice in the entire campaign

You can barely tell if you're hitting anything at medium to long range

etc

Six years in dev and came out half baked. There is no ambition here.. no invention. The devs slavishly recreated environments, weapons etc from the movies (these are done well) but they forgot to put any effort into the gameplay.

Yet the final insult is still to come.... this game will release with no horde mode. Yes.... the first damn mode that should be penciled in is not on disc. You have to pay 15-20 AUS for the horde mode dlc.

Let me know how multiplayer goes because I think this is the games selling point. Won't get my copy until tuesday

Not enough people have the multi for me to try it out before tuesday.. let's be serious though. If you're like me, you're going to buy this no matter what. "This game can't be that bad, i'll have to see for myse... oh god what is this? WHAT IS THIS?"

I really, really hope the multi delivers to make up for the wasted opportunity in the campaign.

I had to buy a new TV and was planning on buying this along with Dead Space 3 when I got it.

Thank you for saving me the $$$

Multi might be able to redeem it, but I cannot recommend the campaign to anybody. If you are a huge Aliens fan maybe wait for price drop because there are chunks of the campaign that are awesome despite the poor mechanics, if you don't care about the Aliens IP abandon ship.

Mate, I've finished the game so I'm sharing my impressions. There aren't any major spoilers in there, and it ain't much of a party. Gearbox pissed in the punch and took a shit in the corner. The band is great though.

I know most fans of the franchise won't care how bad it is and will have to play for themselves in blind hope (like me), but lower your expectations. I'm talking rock bottom.
