Still don't get grigg getting 6. There are plenty of blokes who have played more AFL games, and have actually put their bodies on the line for the Tiges who are still in double digits.

He'd want to play 22 games and show a fair bit next year, or it makes a mockery of DH's 'earn your number' policy.

Not everyone wants a single digit number. For example, apparently Foley just wants to keep the number he has had for years, 41.

I think the earn your number policy was aimed at the young recruits coming out of U18, to teach them another little way of earning respect through effort and hard work. At the end of the day, someone has to fill the lower numbers, so when a player arrives having made at least somewhat of a mark on the game elsewhere, they will possibly get that opportunity off the bat. In a few years time, when our list is not so full of first and second years players, that might be a little different.

Now let me see, Dyer 17, Bourke 30, Bartlett 29, Richo 12.

I can see why players may prefer double digits!

Sheesh, nowhere do I say that there's anything wrong with a player wearing double digits! Cotch could wear 73 for the rest of his career for all I care, as long as it's his choice.

Just reckon there's something about single digits and yeah certain iconic numbers at a club (12 & 17 at the tiges definitely), that means if you're not a proven player from another club, or a young gun that's shown a bit in the jumper, you shouldn't get a walk up start into one.

Not saying grigg(s) won't good enough to deserve it eventually, just that having played a handful of games (and struggling to get those), in average side shouldn't allow you to get anywhere near one.

Jeez kingy has done more to deserve one! Never thought I'd say that a year ago... :D
