Posted this in a thread on the main board, but I get the feeling that everyone just posts their own and doesn't pay much attention to anyone elses. What does everyone think about this? 22 game season that gives every team something to play for, all the way to the end of the season.

--------------
All teams play each other once
- 17 games alternating home and away each year
- That means the Vic teams play 4 games interstate, once each in WA, SA, QLD and NSW, alternating between the two teams from that state each year.
- The interstate teams play in Vic 5 times, each of the other states once and 9 times at home including their local derby.

After 17 rounds, the ladder is broken down into the top 6, middle 6 and bottom 6 and for the final 5 rounds, those "divisions" play each other.

The Top 6 are playing for Finals advantages (home ground, double chance). They can't fall out of the Top 6, they're just jostling for position prior to finals.

The middle 6 are playing for those final 2 spots in the finals. The two teams who finish highest in this "division" will join the Top 6 in the finals, occupying the 7th and 8th seeds.

The bottom 6 are competing for draft lottery balls. The draft lottery would involve all non-finals teams. These teams would each receive a number of lottery balls equal to the number of games they lost out of the first 17. But then in the final five rounds, when teams are playing against their "division", they would get a lottery ball for each game they WIN. So in those last 5 weeks, teams are trying to win games to improve their chances of a better draft pick.

The exact odds could be tinkered with to find the right balance, but this draw would not only be fair and keep some interest for all teams right through the season, but it would eliminate tanking completely.

David King mention priorities etc.. after 17 round, eg. after everyone played each other once. I don't mind the sound of that.It helps prevent the Collingwoods ad others dropping down to only 4 wins from hard draws to boost crowd capacity!!!

Certainly a lot fairer than current system where teams rob forever cellar dwellers RFC due to draw bias amongst other things.
