Ameet Bains: one of the AFL's unsung heroes works his magic at St Kilda
Bains was charged with overhauling the Saints’ list management when he arrived in 2011 and there are signs his aggressive trading strategy could soon pay off

Seven years ago he was a volunteer welfare officer starting out in the AFL. Five years ago he was working as an in-house lawyer at Toyota Australia. Ameet Bains today is somewhere in between the two - part warm passionate football tragic, part bold futures trader.

Love your work, Bainsy :fire:

5 fulltime and 23 part time recruiting staff with five dedicated to FA and contracted players.

No wonder there is confidence from the likes of BrianSpeaking and Moorabbin Ghost about what is happening behind the scenes.

All very promising.

It was an interesting question to learn if the footy dept spend made a big difference in covering the talent spread from the feeder comps, which I thought it might.

Not really was the answer and Ameet explained why that was the case.

To give you a truncated version of the interview, St Kilda's enlarged recruiting dept - which they invested extra money in in recent years - is more than enough to cover the talent spread in the major feeder competitions.

If you consider the gap between the TAC Cup and state leagues like the VFL or WAFL - which is huge - then the gap between Noble Park and the AFL is gargantuan. In other words, don't worry, the talent is covered, including the lowest grades where contacts will turn the Saints onto a quality prospect.

Whether footy dept spend in other areas makes a difference is another question which I didn't cover with Ameet at all. Anyway, your boys look good to me.

said it when he was appointed that it was a solid appointment. he's an absolute star

i only worry that we wont be able to keep him. AFL and a host of other clubs would be circling.

i agree. just look at the bulldog high performance manage,r gold coast went after him in the middle of the year in the middle of his contract. contracts mean nothing. money must mean everything, and there not only is little loyalty left by the players but now also by staff.

still. not only does a club have to think about players and re-signing them before their contract finishes, now they also have to do the same with their off field personnel.
