Very pleased that he is staying with us - was offered a major promotion to a big club - so I would not have blamed him for leaving.
Hawthorn wanted someone to help guide them through their impending move and Ameet's experience with St Kilda's transition back to Moorabbin would have been invaluable. I am very pleased with our current administration, but the writing is now on the wall for Ameet to succeed Matt Finnis. I do love what Finnis has brought to the club and what he has done for us and what he potentially will do for us in the future, but he was an AFL appointment and we will lose him when an AFL position has his name all over it. Ameet represents that natural progression that the AFL hopes all clubs can provide.
I have been concerned that the smaller clubs have been producing players and staff that the larger clubs recruit creating a one way talent drain - but not in this case. Ameet has a job to finish, getting us back to Moorabbin and he will be rewarded with a CEO position soon enough.

I think this calls for a resurrection

"Oh Hawthorn... O'Meara has cost you your strength, Vickery has defeated you!"

Ameet has an extremely rare trait that does not typically exist at executive level. Integrity.

When I heard the initial rumours I tweeted him, and he took the time to respond to me personally and sent me an instant message. A few messages back and forth, so rapt with the outcome and our club 100% has a keeper in Ameet.

For what it's worth: the story as told to me is that the Hawks came gunning for Ameet. They required someone who could meet three key objectives; manage and bed in the move to Dingley, oversee their list rebuild, and manage the coach. They required someone for the longer term (5-10 years) as meeting those first two objectives would likely run over that timeframe.
They threw a bucket load of $'s at him.
Something didn't work out though given Ameet decided not to take up the offer.
We can all speculate what that might have been.

At face value this story seems to be credible but I've noticed over the last week or so, some Hawthorn "history" is being rewritten. Particularly their list management strategy from 2016. So could just as easily be rubbish.

What I do find credible though is that they came gunning for him: only on the basis that his name is the only one publicly linked with the job and also the only one publicly linked in declining to "participate" in the interview process. For those without exposure to executive placement, that's a euphemism for "No thanks".

Great post there sunny.....

I did find it very interesting that his was the only name that appeared publicly and when it did....it was everywhere.

I must say I was very concerned when Caro said on FC Mon week ago that Ameet would probably end up at the Hawks....she often nails the footy Goss and makes a good call so I was worried.

Thankfully Ameet has stayed...

This is what probably swayed him;

Winning a premiership at Hawthorn = Great, fantastic achievement.
Winning a premiership at St.Kilda = Instant legend, remembered forever.

Yes but more like Hawthorn premiership in the next 5-10 years, very little chance, Saints premiership in that time a much greater chance

I reckon Bains would've been approached by Hawthorn a long time ago.

Has there ever been a list manager/administrator at club level that is adored so much?

I'd suggest that only lunatics like us Saints supporters, hurt but never broken by constant shattering disappointment, would be able love & celebrate someone who is neither a player nor coach so deeply.

All praise Ameetos, Patron Sainter of not so lost causes.

He did the same to me... just a wonderful fella
