Could have been a 'reel' (ha ha ha) good movie, had it not been for the worst ending in the history of film. (Apart from blair witch.) It's good for a few cheap laughs. Decent acting in various parts of the film. I like the business card scene.

Ah cool. I liked the hookers line. "I can't do it again. I had to go to hospital and may need surgery. My friend said I should sue."

I'll have to write that down somewhere and somehow (if I'm asked to again, of course) work it into my Roos vs Dons match preview for Bomberblitz.com. It shouldn't be too hard if Hird, Lloyd, Misiti and co have the same bad luck with injuries next year as they did this season.

Oh ha ha ha. :)

Just finished reading the book...

That movie is a picnic compared to some of the sh*t that is in the book. Oh my god. Not for the faint of heart. Apparently, in Australia it has to be sealed in bookstores so that under 18's can't read it!

Good book though. Disturbing, but good...

Also agree, I like the business card scene...

yes, the book is absolute filth & sex & gore... !!!!
what a twisted f*cker !!

love the business card scene... and the 80's music commentry

I really enjoyed the movie thought it was excellent, maybe it was the setting I saw it in, I was at the open air theatre in the "Botanical Gardens" I think that was where it was, we had hundreds of bats flying over head as we watched it, incredible experience.

Would be a fantastic place to watch a Vampire movie, or maybe the "Bats" movie even.

Thought it was a pretty good movie. Prefer 'A Clockwork Orange' although, I'm being stereotypical, I suppose.

Yep sorry Stocka, that is one movie that I find deeply disturbing, have seen it 3 times over the years, keep being told to give it another chance, but guess it is mainly a guy movie.

I watched this movie while drinking cans of beer with my mates. I'd say any other time I would have found it disturbing or whatever, but as it turned out I had a great laugh watching it.

The best part was after he throws the chainsaw down the stairs to kill the woman, and then walks around shooting everyone (including a cat or dog?). Every shot got a great cheer:D

It is a movie after all

The movie is laughable compared to the book. There is now way you should find the movie disturbing in my opinion.
The fact that those scenes were funny instead of murderously violent told a sad tale.

Santos

I might be off track here, but the reason I found it disturbing was because Kubrick turned the movie into a teenage male comedy, making the killers cult heroes & to be admired.

I believe this thread is about 'American Psycho'? I quoted from a post about that film, not 'A Clockwork Orange'.

yeah i know that, but I'm sure a lot of people that haven't been de-sensitised would have found it disturbing?

Absolutely. Read the book first, so found the movie tame, a real let-down. Excellent book, some of the sickest stuff I've ever read.

On A Clockwork Orange, I found it funny, but in a shocking way, if that makes sense. Disturbing, but impossible not to watch? Very clever the way you're positioned to see the characters different ways throughout the movie...

I still cannot finish the book and I've tried at least 6 or 7 times. It is so so so boring. There are about 5 or 6 interesting pages (the rapes/murders), and the rest is just tedious, self absorbed rubbish. The movie is a little more interesting, but even it becomes a little tedious and boring.

I found it was weird.. i was ready to be frightened and it just made me laugh at how pathetic it was.... I mean how long did his shower scene have to be at the start? Jeez!!! And "wash your vagina"... what a laugh!!! Would love to read the book though!

80s fan here, so of course AP is one of my favourite movies/books :D as a satire, it is spot on with the depictions of the excesses and shallowness of the period. however, people do realise that bateman never actually committed any of the killings?

the book is hard to read because it describes every character and situation right down to the smallest detail, i.e. this guy is wearing a Boss Suit, with Armani shirt, Ralph Lauren tie, etc.. but in the 80s, it was all about the superficial, and the outward appearance of things. the book also strongly hints that bateman might actually be gay, despite his homophobic tendencies.

yeah the business card scene was fantastic. there was a scene in the book that was also king - when bateman, van patten, price et al were talking on the phone about where to go for dinner, and kept getting each other on the call waiting, and by the time they're decided where to go, it was about 10pm. crack up :D

favourite line? "christy, don't just stare at it. eat it"

Agree entirely, Eagle_Fan! :)

I actually made a few comments on the book and the movie in an earlier thread right here: http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=47842

Perhaps we should start a thread about it! ;)
