Could an Upgrade work for Blunstone Arena??

Yes but I wondered why Fitzey asked 'could an upgrade work for Blundstone Arena'
Work or not work in what way does he mean?
Attendances, parking, incomes, costs etc? Does he have doubts about it? maybe the same that others do!

The funds, Tasmania are already in anough Dept.

Half of it is Federal money. Its also better building infrastructure than wasting the same amount on Hawthorn!!!!!
Personally I & many others dont think Boot park is the best area for a stadium. up against the beach, surrounded by houses. Its a bugger to get to & from at the best of times. So 20k will gum it up even more. But, as nice as it is, we're stuck with it. We just hope it 'works'

Just be aware some hawthorn money was spent on york park, not that i agree with it

bit of a fantasy, but i'd really like to see the ground totally surrounded by an identical extension to the southern stand, nice and uniformed all the way around, kind of like a mini gabba.
Understandably its not likely to happen in the next decade (let alone at all) unless of course tassie eventually get an AFL club.

Church street would need to be removed/modified. But the next thing that would (should) be on the agenda is parking. There is no parking at all besides street parking, and with a capacity of 19,000, that isnt good enough at all. They will have to buy a block of houses and develop them into car park.

If tassie were to get its own team, and decided to split between north and south, youd think one venue would remain under 20k and the other would be as big as the market could fill. Has york park got more room to grow ?

Aurora has much more room to build. It has probably double the footprint of the current grandstands, constrained by the road to the west, one of the tramsheds(?) to the East and Inveresk Park to the North <insert photo to explain better here>. But knowing sport in this state, both grounds will grow around the same capacity as each city wants to outdo each other.

Edit-Bellerive
Bellerive is constrained by church street, really close to the northern end. The beach to the south (although, the southern stand wouldnt be developed for a while) and the hill to the East which is actually built up quite a bit and its removal would mean probably two stories (for a new grandstand) to bring it up to ground level.

For a visitor, York Park is in a great spot. Walking distance of the CBD, lots of room to expand. It's a shame the CBD isn't a bit more vibrant, otherwise it would make for a great footy trip.

God knows what they were thinking with Bellerive. Out of the way, pain in the arse to get to and park. It's not like Tassie has any sort of public transport system to get people around either.

Usually catch the ferry across the river, leaves from the front of the customs house hotel and drops you off in front of the waterfront hotel (bellerive) couple of beers and a 5 minute walk to the ground, saves a lot of time with parking which isn't the best around the ground

Denis Rogers probably. As head of the Clarence footy and cricket clubs, head of the TCC (now defunct with the Hobart TCA controlling all); and on his way to heading the ACB (now CA) and ICC he had a bit of clout.
There tends to be a bit less rain on the eastern shore, a fairly important consideration for cricket.

If it had originally been done for footy it probably would have been North Hobart (where SoO and Fitzroy games were held, except one SoO at Bellerive). That would have become a problem as NHO is far too small for modern footy at AFL level. Or it would have been KG5 which has a decent sized playing surface, room to expand, and parking not far away.

Bellerive Oval will be a nice little ground now. Shame about the traffic issues. Hopefully it can get 3/4 full for the BBL around 15k.
Besides the non-existent parking, how would they fix the traffic flow to the stadium for the cricket/AFL? I needed to get to the airport on one of the days that NM were playing last year and the traffic was backed up to the Tasman Bridge 1.5hrs before the game. It would have to be the worst location for a 'major' stadium in Australia, regarding these issues.

I'm not sure; it'd be pretty difficult. I'm not sure what the Derwent Ferry situation is like, but I assume it could be improved. Tasmanian public transport is useless, but people won't use it unless they are forced. More buses could be offered but I doubt people would use them.

I'm not from Southern Tasmania, so in reality I have little clue.

I agree the parking situation needs work as capacity increases.
I normally park on a little oval that is allocated for public parking when North play.
Looking forward to checking out the stadium next vs. Adelaide as I missed the Saints game.
