He's the sort of player that I think AFC needs. Quick with good skills. But there is no way the Bombers would let him go. Why would he want to come to Adelaide? Isn't he for WA?

Last I heard he was having a lot of personal problems over there and thats why he hasn't been playing regularly. Maybe a change of scenery would do him some good ;-)

Well if that's the case he will definitely be headed back to WA where brawling, ODing and your day in court are a way of life.:D

There are plenty of players within the AFL system that would have the talent that we should go for but what do we have to give up in return.

Its easy to say lets go for ‘player X’ or ‘player Y’ but if we have to give up players X, Y and Z to make this deal happen it wouldn’t be worthwhile.

One of the primary objectives in trade week is to make your list stronger, so yes Andrew Lovett would be an ideal player to target because he has a truck load of talent but what do we have to give up to obtain his services?

Ideally it would be nice if we could off load a Ken McGregor or Like Jericho for this type of player but that is just a potential pipedream. Whilst we are in the early stages of a list redevelopment we should be loading up with early draft picks so trading pick 10 for him would also not be an option.

We will be a player in trade week this year but we will not be doing many (if any) diverse trades that simple result in ‘like for like’.

Hmmm.. true it would be difficult to get him considering what we have to offer currently. Essendon like many other Vic clubs are in the chase for Judd, so maybe Lovett will feature in this trade considering he is from WA.

I guess the same can be said about our chances of getting Aaron Davey :(

I really don't think we stand any chance of getting Didak, so who does that leave?

Why do we have to go for a ready made product?

Jason Porplyzia and a fit Mathew Bode are more than capable of getting the job done. If Porplyzia or Bode have another run with injuries we give as kid a go and see what happens. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

It is a major requirement for the AFC to unearth some pace in this year national draft.

Rather than giving someone we may need next year away, lets draft some pace for the forward line and develop our own and start building some list continuity for the future.

Mate being an essendon supporter, Ill tell you know to quit dreaming. Lovett going nowhere!

Why dont u discuss other plays u think may leave like Luke Hodge or maybe be realistic.

Thats a fair comment, but the 2 names you mention aren't exactly pacey. I Like Davey, Lovett and Didak as they are quick skillful and can play midfield/forward and are definite goal kickers.

I really like Porps as well and thing he has a great football brain, however I think he needs to improve his kicking and find another yard of pace somewhere if he is to be a great player.

Bode is a difficult one, I would probably have Bode on a performance based 1 year contract much like we had Scott Welsh on, but having a fit and firing Bode around next year is something I don't think we can rely on.

So I guess I'm saying that these 2 don't really fit would i think Adelaide needs. In addition to this I just think we need an injection of new blood
as things are feeling really stale at AFC at the moment.

I bet if West Coast asked for Lovett in a possible Judd trade Essendon wouldn't think twice

Andrew Lovett is from Melbourne, from Preston or somewhere round the northern suburbs. Just spent a year in Perth, playing for West or East Perth or some other club.

Yep agree and the draft is the way to go.

To get someone like Davey, Lovett and Didak we will have to give up someone like Brent Reilly or Chris Knight. We lose someone from one part of the ground to gain something somewhere else.

By keeping the faith in Porplyzia and Bode (and accepting they don’t have great pace) we can increase our depth of our list via the draft. If we draft someone with super quick speed and they develop into a quality small forward, we are going to be ahead. If we give up a draft pick or player equal to the value of the player we have gained, we potentially may have gone backwards.

I understand what you are saying but IMO we cannot afford to trade quality in one area for quality in another. We just don’t that much playing death.

Thats Judd. There is absolutely nuthing the dons would want from the crows.

Really what would u offer?

So Lovett isn't exactly going nowhere, he'll just go for the right price. No one is arguing that a trade for Lovett requires something significant, and if you read the posts we actually say that most likely we have nothing to offer that can snare Lovett.

There is no way that Andrew Lovett would move out of Preston. Do they have Breakers pool halls in Adelaide? If so, and if he could bring all of his cousins, then it might be a possibility.

As a matter of fact they do, and they are all welcome

I've given up on Bode. He'll be 28 next year. He has spent most of the last 2 years on the injury list, and we have forgotten how he plays. He was recruited as a goal kicking forward, but didn't do that job that well when he was fit, as he was too slow and and got caught holding the ball. Sure he tries hard, and applies great defensive pressure, but he has to do that, kick goals and stay fit. At best he'll be offered a performance-based 1 year contract.

As for drafting pace and building list continuity, I absolutely agree. This is the challenge for AFC. The AFL demands pace. If you're not fast then you have to some other trick up your sleeve. The AFC list has gotten too old. Currently there are 13 players that will be 28 or older next year. If they all retired in the same year it would be akin to Aussie cricket losing Chappell, Lillee, Marsh etc in the same year. Player turn-over is now priority. These players haven't delivered a Premiership, so why would you expect them to next year? 3-4 new players have to be persisted with next year.

Yeah totally agree.... I think the AFC have a few too many players in that boat though, players that try really hard but aren't exactly to the standard we need *cough* doughty, massie, shirley, perrie *cough*

I guess I just want to see exciting footy return to the AFC, some of the games we played this year were so hard to watch. I sometimes think the reason we have to play that Defense dour brand of football was because it was the only way we could win. We needed to shut out the opposition to have any chance of a victory. Drafting these fast skillful players can hopefully change our game plan and bring the excitment back to the AFC

I know what you mean. We are becoming boring, uncreative and our skills are average. The crowd has warmed to Gill, that's how desperate it has become. And this guy can't kick goals reliably if his life depended on it. It won't be long before he is as maligned as Burton.

Matty Wright.

Agreed.

It's probably been covered elsewhere but where is he predicted to fall in the draft? Is there any chance he'd drop to our third pick? If not, one would think we could at least get another second rounder thru trading. Or is he worth our second pick outright?

Having said previously that I think we should pursue didak or Davey if there is a chance, this is a contradiction, however, I don't think we should chase guys like Lovett or Sampi who we already know have issues and also have no family or connections in SA. At least the forementioned players have some SA history and they are guns whereas the other two have "potential" which is sadly left at Port Road once a contract is signed. Look into the big names and if possible trade for them but if that doesn't come about concentrate on young guys [preferably from SA] who will be around for years to come and then we won't have to trade for them 3 to 4 seasons down the road.
