I'm assuming they have someone ready or in mind.

Agreed - or at least I hope this is the case. You wouldn't want to go to market to fill a such a pivotal role in a market that is so fluid, and risk leaving yourself without a suitable candidate when the music stops. Interesting move, at a key time in the 'reset'.

Do we have anyone suitable to promote from within, or are we likely to have poached from elsewhere?

What is the role for a head of football?
What McKay performing well? Please elaborate.
Who would be be looking at for a replacement?

As much as we all like to bag him, we don't really know how involved he was in some of our poor decisions. Always easy to find a scapegoat.

Seems like a reasonably intelligent dude and I'm sure there's a good role for him out there.

Before he came back to Carlton, he was involved in AFL Tribunal and Laws of the Game committee.

Would be great if he ended up back in that area and we ended up with a man on the inside!

(although The Vet looks too scrupled and straight-laced to actually bend any rules for us)

It’s time to move on. Wouldn’t have had it easy with Malthouse being such a domineering force and SOS now clearly seems to be the driver.

I’m sure they’ve got a target in mind to fill the particulars of what the role requires within the current structure.

Thanks Macca.

Only seems yesterday he was a student turning up to club training on his push bike as a vet student down the road. Been a tough gig being a football department person through this shit era but the guy has stuck fat with us. Hope they give him a great send off party his last day as part of the staff.

I assume it is the link between the coaching teams and the board. It would not surprise if Juddy steps of the board and into this role.

I know McKay has his detractors here, and I've been among them with certain things, but as with most off-field positions, I find it very hard to gauge or to judge performance of those in these roles.

We typically only have the public-facing aspects of the role on which to base our judgement, and in McKay's case, the public/media stuff was, I feel, never really his go - and just an obligation he needed to perform, rather than one he relished. This perhaps came across at times, and helped to form and shape the public view of him in this job, for better or worse.

It's really when the chips are down that you get the best insight into the character of people, and I don't think we could ever question McKay's commitment to doing what was best for the footy club, throughout some trying and difficult low-points in the club's recent history.

I'm grateful that he stuck around and provided some stability at a time when we most needed it, and has, I assume, played a key role in implementing the full-club 'reset' - with which I'm still confident that the club is on the right track.

Thanks, Macca - and all the best.
