Oh I get it. Girls are all about colours and fashion right? Like the Melbourne Cup ... I picked number 15 because his name reminds me of my first pet hamster and I like pink polka dots. Is that it Jabba, you sexist pig?

Clearly it is because of his ripping physique ...

*Sorry Mebby ;)

Doesn't he have a babacious girlfriend - can we get a pic ??

I understand the line of thought but the modern game is all about creating space in the forward line. Regardless of the set up they all ultimately attempt to do the same thing - create space. For example, North with their three and sometimes four big forwards is all about creating different avenues that their forwards can lead to with Thomas, Harvey, etc. swooping in when the ball hits the deck (or creating an opening that Thomas gets on the end of and getting a one out with his opponent whereby he is either too strong in the air or he games the system to get a free kick). Whereas in Adelaide you have Taylor Walker commanding the CHF line with Lynch doing the same making it easy for Jenkins to play out of the goal square or falling back to the goal square and getting on the end of their great work with Betts again using the space that the others have created to go nuts or being present in the space near the fall of the ball to do the same.

I don't see the point of having someone whose not a natural forward playing as a forward because the space isn't created and it ultimately helps the opposition. In order to be proactive you need to know how to create the space. Players that are playing out of position and who are not natural in their behavior are unable to be as proactive as you need them to be.

We're talking about two natural rucks not a David Hale type who was a much more natural forward playing ruck than either Kreuzer or Phillips.

Pretty much this. Although big Sauce MK II has really impressed me.

I'm sure we will see both again in the same side in due course

If Gorringe can come on be a decent or even adequate ruck presence, that gives us hopefully the luxury of resting Kruezer after a 6 game stretch or.so. Think we need to consider lighting the rucking and game time load on Humphrey, try prolong his career etc

Phillips is a monster of a chap, has plenty of room for improvement in his ruckwork but he is a strong overhead mark and very good kick for goal.

My knock on him is that he doesn't have enough second efforts, far too often he does what is right there in front of them and then stands and watches everything else go by. If Bolton can drill into him the need to be more desperate on multiple occasions, his worth to the team will be immense.

Agree with your assessment of his potential Thy. What do you think his chances of an immediate return are given the incumbent (Gorringe) keeps kicking goals?
Club really rates Phillips and they've been extremely conservative with managing his injury. Given he's missed 5 weeks of footy one would think they'd give him a run in the magoos to find some touch, but given what Bolts did with Sumner & Plowman, who knows???

Dunno Sheik, I reckon his 2nd efforts are pretty good considering his lack of experience and while the learning curve is steep, based upon his continual improvement during the first 6 rounds he seems to take it all in his stride. Like Kreuzer, his tackling is good and while he's OK off the deck, not sure he'll ever match Kreuzer in this area. Expect that he'll be a lot better tap ruckman than Kreuzer with another 20 games under his belt and has the potential to be a lot better in the air. Certainly does his bit when taking up his position in the defensive structures.

Lucky enough to have had a chat with the "Big Chilli" at Tullamarine. Very intelligent bloke who knows where his footy is at and loves working under Bolts.

When they were in the side together, a lot of posters wanted to drop Kreuzer. Both were getting a handful of disposals and splitting the taps. Phillips was getting 65% game time.

We were almost down a rotation.

Kruezer has shown he plays his best football when he is the sole ruck.
Problem with that is his body hasn't been able to cope with that kind of workload.
I'm hoping that now at 26yo his body will start to hold up better.
This is when a ruckman should be entering the prime of there career.

Gotta have a second ruck in the 22, and if, God forbid, Krooz goes down we are deader than disco.

Phillips is a genuine WiP, improved every week. As his confidence grew started taking contested marks and gained damaging possessions.

Gorringe is a handy 2nd man up, then again, so is Cripps.
Bit prophetic Numb3rs. Lucky it was only the Paddlepops we were playing.

Phillips really starting to get some momentum going this season, looking like a very handy pick up.

Must play well for the remaining games to push his case to be our number one ruck choice for next season. Will be starting to hit his prime as the rebuild is completed. Big chance to be part of something special.

Needs to improve his body work and tap work significantly for that to change. Right now he compliments Kreuzer well if he keeps his work rate up to the level that he showed on the weekend.

It also won't help if he can't find that acceleration he showed on the weekend more often: he's usually running at a snail's pace (and that's arguably offensive to snails). Makes you wonder how shot up his hamstrings are.

Yep. He really didn't want to kick that second shot at goal from the 50 (which is how he pulled his hammi the first time).
I think this bloke will be ok. He is quite athletic and can take an overhead mark; his kicking is generally ok too.
His main issue is his core strength. He is pushed off the ball 9 times out of 10 during ruck ball ups or throw ins. I can see the fitness staff working all off season on his core strength and his legs.
Very happy with the pick up and think he will only get better with age...fingers crossed anyway.

Phillips sidelined

Carlton ruckman Andrew Phillips has suffered a setback in his pre-season preparation, with scans confirming a stress reaction in his left foot.

Phillips sidelined

A setback for Sauce which puts him in doubt for round 1.

Good to catch this sort of thing early before it gets overly serious. A good rehab block and he'll be fine.

Phillips placed on the LTI

Carlton ruckman Andrew Phillips has been placed on the Club’s long-term injury list, after suffering a stress reaction in his left foot.
While the big man will not require surgery, Phillips will be sidelined for approximately eight weeks after seeing a specialist earlier this week.

The Club has not named a replacement for Phillips at this stage.
