We all know the kid can play but the question I think that needs to be asked is, WHich position should he be played in?

He was great down back this year providing plenty of drive and also being our most accountable backman. However there seems to be a call for him to move into the midfield to give more options.

So your call where would you like to see him played in 2007?

The position in which he finished second in the rising star in, which is the backline, we have enough midfielders coming through, our weakness is the backline and Rainsey is one who played well there this year so keep him there and put some of our other up and comers in the midfield.

He seemed to struggle when chucked in the middle for run with roles- (think G Ablett Jr). Just leave him where he is for now. Needs to develop the capacity to run in the middle. He's just had a breakout year and needs to build on that before he moves. He is doing the vital jobs down there- (think Ricciuto) and we have enough in the middle. He can be just as dangerous as a midfielder for us down there anyway- look at the impact of Wirrpunda, McLeod, Johncock, Gilbee, Hodge across the back line for their clubs.

for mine , i think that brett deledio will get a midfield gig before andrew .
2007 starting half back line = j.bowden polak raines
class , strength , & speed :)

I reckon by round 7, suppporters on here will be turning on him and asking if he'll ever get back his 2006 form, because he is only averaging 18 possies a week and isn't in the top 20 favourites for the Brownlow. :p

he'll play most of the season off half-back, but terry will give him stints in the middle to see how he goes. for now he is playing brilliantly off the backline but he could be a midfielder in the future.

Let him continue to develop on the HBF. Occasional run in the middle to get a taste. Time in the middle to increase as the season continues and opportunities arise.

Maybe one more year down back. Maybe not.

He's going to be a club champion wherever he plays. The kid hates getting beaten.

Give him the captaincy in 2008.

I agree with MTBTYT.
He'll be great in th midfield one day no problem there, but if he can become a more versatile midfielder who can drop back then he'll be a pot of gold for us.

Class - Yes
Strength - Yes
Speed - No

Bowden aint quick.
Polak aint quick
and despite perception Raines aint quick.

At the start of the year Raines was getting caught with the ball a bit. His awareness has increased to the point where he shrugs tackles, slides his hips around ondcoming traffic. He has since become more evasive and difficult to tackle in the same sort of way that Knighta was not quick but difficult to catch.

If you want some speed on the Half Back Line grab, White, Delidio, or a fit Newman.

Raines' future is as a goal-kicking midfielder.
Raines' future is as the Captain of the RFC.

And Raines will never win a B&F until the BS suspicious,
miraculous, voting system they have down at the club
is cleaned up !!
