Did we loose out of this trade?
Raines came 2nd in the rising star and in my opinion wasnt given enough time.
We traded him for #44 which became Matt Dea.
In my opinion Raines would be making more of a impact for us than Dea is.

Dea isnt doing much better? All im saying is that if Raines was still at Richmond he would be having a bigger impact that Dea is

At this stage, he wouldn't be getting a gig in our team. It isn't relevant what he's doing in a spud of a team in Brisbane. He wouldn't get a game in our best 22. Wouldn't be in our best 30. One sided player who is getting on in age.

Raines would have been delisted the year after the trade had he stayed with us. Even at Brisbane it took him 2-3 seasons to become the tagger he currently is.

depth perception
peripheral vision
speed
ability to read incoming traffic
decision making

It was such a drastic fall. I had no idea either, why.

Plus he told us he was leaving. Had already arranged to go to Brisbane. We are lucky they gave us anything for him at the time.

Not the first guy to impress hugely in his first season. Then he starts getting serious jobs, and the opposition don't just let him run around loose all day. The guy who won the Rising Star that year was Danyle Pearce, who has also turned out to be basically average. Raines is a ball magnet, but doesn't do much with it when under pressure. But let him run free and he was great.

You can't call a guy a star until you see how he goes while:
a) he's being tagged or
b) he's playing as a KPP

and

c) he's been in the league for 3 or so years and the opposition have put work into stopping him.

Matthew is Chris Newmans replacement, Andrew Raines is a list clogger. Dea isn't able to hold a spot or make an impact because his Houli and Newman are more experienced players in that role, if Dea was allowed to string a few games together and gain some confidence he'd make an 'impact', even his game v West Coast this year you could see the positives, 8 rebound 50s.
