I've noticed a similar theme in a lot of peoples threads saying that Andrew Raines has actually gotten worse since last year, espeaccialy in areas of decision making and vision

I have to disagree to some extent. Last week, we saw Raines play his best game for the year, espeacially in the last quater. He sometimes gets caught but clearly there is a message at tigerland saying "take them on" because Foley, Hyde, and some of those other blokes get caught just as often, but we don't notice it that much because its not in the D50.

Unfortuanly for Raines, he hasn't imporved alot of the pre-season from what we've seen... lets hope improves as the season goes on like last year. I just hope that he doesn't turn into another Shane Tuck who has one massive year of improvement then thinks he is safe in the team and gets a little lazy.

Thoughts?

LOVE HIM... Exciting player who isn't scared to back himself.... Unfortuanetly, not the best of kick. He kicks very high which gives the defense more time to get to the ball. Other than that, love him and hope he becomes a lifetime player.:thumbsu: :thumbsu:

I think Raines like most young Tiger players will still need another 3-4 years before he actually reaches his full potential. I agree he seems like he's slower in his decision making and does seem to get caught with the ball more so than last year. However I see that he has improved in the past two matches, and I think we should give him a break and see how he gets on.

I'm very keen to get a glimpse of Jack Riewoldt as I see he kicked 5 goals again for Coburg. Let's play the young ones, as they keep me interested in the Tiges.

Rainsey's major pitfall this season is 'taking the player on or trying to burst through packs'. The lad needs to put on some serious bulk to make this a successful part of his game!

I don't think he has gone backwards at all.

It's the fact that he is exactly the same as last year that is worrying.

His honeymoon period is over and like all 21yo's he needs to improve. Shane Tuck is someone who has not improved at all in 2 full years, I hope Andrew doesn't suffer the same fate.

With improvement he should be a decent player, there is no doubt about that, but in his current state he won't be a 10 year player imo.

Don't stagnate Rainsey, you're half way there but you need to push yourself into the next phase of your career :thumbsu:

If he's getting beaten I'd like to see him thrown forward every now and then. He has the attributes to make an impact in the forward line.

raines has been good his the only 1 i see breaking the lines and decision making hasnt been the worst ive seen worse from other players

Fair enough benny but I think some of us have been a bit too quick to jump on Raines' back. Judging by his breakout season last year, he is somewhat of a late bloomer compared to others, and all of a sudden after one good season he is supposed to be a champion of the league week in week out. We aren't talking about a Voss or Hird here, but this bloke will be a very good player if we stick by him and don't start calling for his head like we do with others at the club. A real confidence player is Rainesy and we all need to stick by him and give him the support he deserves.

Remember we are only 7 rounds into the season, good old Richmond premature ejaculation at its finest:rolleyes:

Comprehension isn't your forte is it.

Nobody is asking him to be a Voss or a Hird. :p

We just expect a little form of improvement, as you expect from all your young players.

Shane Tuck was a late bloomer too. Has he improved since bursting onto the scene? No. Andrew Raines must not follow in Tuck's footsteps because in his current state he is very average. Understand now? I don't mean to sound rude to you so I'm sorry, but I think it's unreasonable to get angry at supporters who expect improvement from young players.

We are not bagging him, just putting up a big "Caution: You Must Not Stagnate" sign on his forehead. Nobody ever said he is not capable of improving, just that he hasn't shown any yet this year.

He has plenty of time to be a great player and now is not the time to worry. As I said before, let's hope that Andrew has a few more tricks up his sleeve because at the moment his graph isn't pointing upwards. That is the only concern :)

That post suggests that you are expecting Raines to be taking the competition by storm. I expect improvement, but 7 games in and all of a sudden he is stagnating and we should be concerned? Because you obviously are concerned he is going to become a plodder in the Tuck mould, otherwise you wouldn't post this stuff.

You have floated the idea of trading Raines have you not? (Correct me if I'm wrong) It seems you are placing a lot of expectation on this kids' shoulders, and now he isn't taking the competition by storm and all of a sudden he is stuck in a rut. I agree he musn't become Shane Tuck mach II, but Raines was very very raw last season, and it will take a few more before we see the absolute best of him. I see your point of view Benny, but IMO evaluating him should come next season at the earliest, he has still got a lot of time and development on his side.

We should revisit this at season's end, that is when we will get a better idea of his progress, not in Rd 8.

Troy Simmonds told me Rainesy had a few niggling injuries but like the others wants to keep playing because of all the injuries we have had. His fitness base isnt as good as it was last year and he knows that. He started the pre season a couple of weeks after everyone because of the Irish tour and when he started the pre season he wasnt doing everything,
