Why? He's 20 years old, in 2-3 years he'll add 5-8 kgs of muscle. I can't see why we wouldnt want a player like him, he's a Brock O'Brien with 2 yrs head start.

The point I was trying to make malpaso is that with the lack of development of others on the Freo list, why chase Swallow who still needs further development of his game? The consensus is that our player development is not as good as it should be. We need to fix the problem and develop what we have, not trade for average players from other teams (I'm not suggesting that Swallow is no good, but he's not going to be a superstar).

I totally agree with improving our development of players that we have.

Rarely does anyone trade for a superstar. Judd being an exception. What teams do trade for are gap-fillers, mid-range players, depth and once in awhile when the player is young enough you might just land yourself a star.

Question do you think Swallow is as good as Schammer? I'd say they are about the same with Swallow having an edge in the hardness stakes.

If we were to trade Murphy for him I would not be disappointed.

To get Swallow, you'd have to trade away some good players and picks.

When will you learn?

How about, just for once, you hold onto your damn picks, and pick some players and KEEP them and develop them.

Go after the ones that WANT to leave, or have been let go by the club, not ones that are going to cost you big

And port are the best example of this... They have a crack at a Premiership, rebuilding in 3 seasons... Injecting youth... Even Rodan who was a delisted by Richmond, will probably finish top 10 in best and fairest. The last big trade port did was the Josh Carr one...

No to swallow... keep the draft picks... inject youth around experience - take the blueprint from Geelong and Port

TBH I haven't seen a lot of Swallow - don't have much interest in the roos and they are rarely on FTA. If he's harder than Scham then he must be pretty hard. Scham has more guts than almost anyone at Freo (for his size, I'd say he'd be equal top).

He was one of the very few Claremont players who could hold his head high after Sunday's GF and the courage and work it must have taken for him to get back after what he went through at the start of the year cannot be dismissed. The kid loves Freo. He may not be the most talented player on the list, but you know he will be giving 110% every week.

Having said that, there is only room for so many like that in a team. I'd rather stick with Schammer than trade for Swallow (regardless of the SA/WA thing). The club obviously had it's reasons for passing on Swallow given that they had multiple chances of taking him.

I don't agree with trading Murphy unless he is adamant he wants out, or we are offered something that is very heavily in our favour. He had a terrible year, mostly due to a very poor attitude, but seemed to improve both that and his form in the last month. If Harvs can get him to work hard over summer and keep his head right, he could be a very good player in '08.

and if we wanted to go back, you would have to give up 1st rnd pick + Mundy

At least you are not falling into the trap of over valuing him like some clubs.

Keep him mate ...pick 7 should get us a midfielder of equal to better quality (if the cards fall correctly).

Our club and fifteen others. He was a third round pick after being AA at under 18 level. I've always thought he stood out at in the 18's because he matured very early. Kind of Phil Read like.

He was in the same Colts team as Ibbo but a year older so lets give Ibbo another year and see how they stack up.

Good luck to him. Just as we like to see our young out-of-staters stay with us, it's good to see a WA boy stay with his Vic club.

That's not to say I wouldn't like him at Freo one day if he ever does want to come home. ;)
