Walks hasn't played forward all year (apart from a quarter against Collingwood) and is suddenly put there in a final

Kicks three goals, in a very tough, scrappy game, all at crucial times.

Great effort :thumbsu:

Yep, perhaps his forward pressure could improve, but he's hard to match up on because he can mark and play at ground level. Next year let him loss on the wing / half forward line and see how he goes

Sorry Ex, according to 99% of the posters on this board he wont be here next year.

Righto.....firstly I'll address this....No forward pressure at all you say?? How many touches did Kennelly have to 3 qtr time? 8 and 7 in the first half.

Was Kennelly moved up the ground by Roos because he wasn't getting near it?? Yes.

When Kennelly was moved back Mattner went to Walker, Walks tried to get to him, but it was a hopless case in the end...Mattner was effective in the first half, so Walks then went to him. Mattner had 7 touches in the last half and his run was limited...

Secondly, he definetly provided a target and should have kicked 5...he was also stiff with a couple of free kicks and held his ground and contested pretty well...

Lastly, if you want to trade him for a quality player....it wont happen. 3 shoulder reco's a broken collarbone isn't going to get you much on the trade table, plus he had way more upside than anything....I agree that wing and hf is his go....

If we want quality we have to give a player with a heap of upside...Anderson, Yarran, Hampson, Bower, Armfield, Lucas, White one of these guys....You cant trade your Thorntons, Walkers etc and expect to get quality players in return at the moment we have a number of half backs and back pocket players with plenty of upside and there the ones who will be packing their bags, plus a ruckman.
Thought Walker had an a fairly good game and maybe a permanent move forward could be what he needs, just dont think it will be with us as he seems to have fallen out with Ratten.

The trouble with Walker is he teases and promises so much but doesn't deliver over the course of a full season.

And to be perfectly fair and honest the game has gone past Kennelly a bit these days, he is not nearly as good as he once was.

Defensive forward is his role and I've said that for a while now.

Houlihan was performing brilliantly earlier in the season which restricted Walks a bit but Houlihan is now an unknown - how will he return, if at all?

We'd be silly to get rid of Walker. He's had some great games up forward, some great games down back and through the middle of the ground. He's had a heap of injuries, so his market value will inevitably be lower than his value to us when fully fit and firing.

Should be in our team next season as a defensive forward.

Walker kicks three goals and kept us in the game when we were struggling, yet some still find a way to pot him.

And then want him traded.

The usual suspects.

Houlihan has only had two games when he's kicked three goals or more as a defensive forward.

Walker equalled Houla's best yesterday.

Walker is ahead of Robinson.

Was only played back early in the year to cover for Bower who was injured.

Well the potters got Russell from Whipping boy into our top 5....Imagine if we had of traded him last year???

Always going to be a whipping boy and Walks is it...hopefully he has a Russell type year in 2011

Not sure if it was showing up on the TV but Walker played a defensive forward role at times sacrificing his own game to do so, so to come away with 3 is a tidy effort. What he was doing was going to Garletts man (so there was a lot of ring a rosy between the 4 of them for while) and trying to free Garlett and at time the 3 of them would run one way whilst Garlett managed to give them all the slip until Garlett's man got around the block by Tex (remember the ball is not yet in the area so Tex cannot do much but block) so he could chase Garlett and Kinelly had to stick with Tex too. So many times Tex leading and marking was secondary to getting Garlett a head start and to be able to do that and still hit the scoreboard is difficult. Well done Tex. One of our better players yesterday.

I had my doubts on Walker, and I did suggest that he may not be a part of our long term plans. He has changed my mind to a degree. He has a place and with a fit body (OK... as fit as Walks will get) he might show us some of that much vaunted potential. I would still do a trade if it was the right price, but that price just went up.

Agreed.

If we're offered a top 30 pick, we'd think about, but we know that's never going to happen given his history with injuries. Unless we can use him to trade up a round by sending him to a club who might need a runner. The Dogs did that with Farren Ray and drafted a promising power forward in Liam Jones.

Everyone will be saying 'well done for yesterdays effort walks', which i agree he played well but if he has a stinker in round 1 next year regardless of what position he is playing we are going to be up in arms about why he wasn't traded etc etc.

So yes yesterday he played well and should have done his $$ the world of good but seriously we need a backline and players like walker and Grigg and Sauce are our chances of landing picks for what we need.

If they dont trade or look at trading those 3 ill be very disappointed.

But as i said above, well done for yesterdays game walks :thumbsu:
