Never seen much of him at Coburg , but going by the VFL reports against what I've seen with Richmond, seems to step up at the higher level....I like him in the forward line too.....(yet another "Better up foprward" type it seems) kicks straight , has that big bodied presence....some good coaching should see him maximise his strenghths and minimise his weaknesses...

if he goes well for the next month we wont be needing to trade for another teams ruckmen. we still can but we should not go out of our way and pay over the top for one.

Good game from him. Dominated the ruck (like he should against the Hawks) and went forward kicked a few goals. Hopefully he can continue that form and hold down the No.1 ruck spot.

Can't let Graham rot away in the magoos. Gotta be left in the team for as long as possible this season to see what we have.

Like everyone else i thought he did well today, but it wasnt exactly the leagues best ruckmen he was up against.

Two thoughts though.. 1. when we were warming up at the start of the game, big Gus was massive compared to everyone else on our team. Vickery's lack of size has been exposed but Gus doesnt have to worry here. And 2. When Gus was moved forward he made an impact, something that Vickery is yet to do and Simmo can be a bit hit and miss in the forward line.

Despite how Gus may have been going in the VFL, we need to persist with him. Gus coming good is just about the best thing that could happen for us at this point in time.

Vickery has been getting killed in the ruck, but he has done some very nice things. once he starts winning a few more hit outs and starts running to the right places more he will be much better. i might need to donate $100 for some weights for him though.

What nice things did he do today?

Haha i got that letter too.

I have faith in Vickery in the long term, but its hard to say how long it will take him to start getting it all together. Could happen next week, next year.. who knows. It will certainly be a couple of years before he has the strength to match it with established AFL ruckmen.

He played good today vs hawks some good marks, if he didn't mark it he got to ground.

was very happy with his game. liked him alot up forward. but loved when he was rucking and pushed back into defence and made a couple of spoils
he should play for the rest of the year he can only keep improving

Simmo in forward line is like a statue - kick it to him and 25% chance might mark it, less than 50% chance to goal. that adds up to maybe 5 goals across 20 games. perhaps gerard healy might change the worn-out "plonk simmo at full forward" tune now:)

Did anyone see Hardwick's post-match? Quite funny about Gus, obviously has shown nothing pre-season and in the two's. 'He took a couple of big grabs the big fella...I didn't think he had it in him.'

Massive indictment against Hardwick then because it shows he didn't even bother to watch Graham's games from last year - when he did exactly what he did today up forward - before he asked Simmonds to stay AND gave him games ahead of Graham despite how woeful Simmonds' form has been.

I wasn't surprised by his performance, even MT was ahead of Hardwick on this one and Hardwick's apparent laziness and ignorance of our list's past performances is to blame it would seem.

Not impressed. :thumbsd:

I recall Graham doing what he did today maybe in 1 or 2 out of 15 games last year (v Swans, v Brisbane). There is nothing wrong with a coach demanding to see a player pull his finger out at VFL level before he gets promoted to AFL. Full marks to Hardwick for that. Should be that way for every player every week. Having said that I am a Graham fan, and hopefully he will get another opportunity next week. Up to him what he does with the opportunity

He said it with a chuckle, tongue in cheek. Went on to say “he kicked a couple and if he keeps that up ill just leave him there” … still laughing. All good fun. He was wrapped in his game and pointed that out.

From memory, Graham had a great first game last season, then a couple of servicable games and then didn't do much after that. I reckon he can be a player for us but he was almost gifted a game this week. Had a good one and will get a few more on the back of it, but hasn't proven anything yet.

Even Nahas was placed back in the seconds a few weeks and now look at his performance. He has improved heaps since then

I should've put Hardwick's comments in context. He was giving the big fella a wrap and as has been said, was having a chuckle. From those who have been out to see Gus in the two's it appeared he really had given no reason why he should get a game. Looked good today though, and hopefully he saves his best for the seniors!

He did it in consecutive games prior to his back spasm, wasn't the same after that but forced to play anyway.

IMO, there's a lot wrong with saying it's a development year, playing Vickery way before he's ready for that reason, but then playing Simmonds ahead of Graham. Hardwick hadn't seen any of Graham's pre-season or his VFL games when he decided to beg Simmonds to go on - because he'd decided on arrival that Graham was nowhere near Simmonds.

Did it occur to you that if Simmonds hadn't got injured Graham would still be languishing at Coburg - where he's never played a great game like some of his senior performances - with Hardwick still entertaining the delusion that Simmonds is a far better option.

Full marks for those decisions? I give him 2/10.
