Angus Monfries

Collingwood would also be looking at him, as they are in need of a hard, pacy midfielder.

I think of chances of getting him are pretty good, especially if Wood is taken before pick 8 (as the Crows would definitely consider him as well).

Though I rate Monfries higher than Eckerman, the Crows will also be keen of Eckerman is Monfries and Wood are taken earlier.

IMO Angus is the best of the midfielders that are likely to be avaliable by pick 8. He's got super quick hands, ideal pace, tackles well and has clean disposal. The only problem is he is around the 70-74kg weight, which will have an effect on him at AFL level. If he puts on weight, he should develop into a gun and reach the potential he has showed this year for Sturt.

There are 6 players that are considered as standouts and then the field gets more even. If one of those 6 slipped down I think we will pounce regardless of the position that player might be.

However, lets say top 6 prospects are selected as expected and Collingwood get to their pick 7. They want a midfielder and I am sure they will go for Monfries. If Monfries is gone then I would pick Wood because I think Eckermann will still be available wiht pick 12 if we get that from WC.

I think we might have a bit more idea on friday night what order the picks are and what each club needs. Collingwood are open to trading pick 7 for the right player. If they trade it them Monfries could slip to us.

You don't consider Wood to be part of the top 6 prospects?

I agree with all of your other points though. Collingwood will screw us over and take Monfries, especially given they are in desperate need of a pacy midfielder. I mean, we are their bitc*** after all. ;)

I also agree with you on the chance of Eckerman slipping down the order. His lack of height is sure to worry the majority of AFL clubs.

There are still plenty of ???? on Wood - thin as a stick, one dimensional ATS and 3 years at least from playing AFL regularly.
This will keep all the ruckmen out of the first 8 picks IMO.

The other issue is that although the first 6 appear to pick themselves, there's always a bolter, and always a fav that slips down the order.

I do agree with your points. It's hard to know what Woods will become. He has the potential to become a very good ruckman, but it will be a long wait before we will see any of it.

John Meeson from the Geelong Falcons has a bright future. His attack on the ball is something which will entice many clubs. I am confident that if we do obtain pick 12 from West Coast, we will have the chance to draft Meeson, especially if we take a midfielder with pick 8.

No logic to this, but I suspect one ruckmen will be gone by pick 12, leaving 2 left.
Meeson would be my choice based upon the available data. Wood gets strong vote by many because of his SA background, but Geelong and Adelaide are similar lifestyles.

I think it willl depend the top 7 picks. I know for a fact that we are keen on Monfries but I get the feeling that Collingwood will screws us over by picking him right under our nose:(
Guys, at pick 7 all I can think about it is this kid. (sorry to dissapoint)He is exactly what we need so hopefully we ratain our pick and get this guy straight into our system. Given the type of player he is and what we need he could be playing seniors next year for the pies....

Eckerman is actually my third choice for pick seven. I like a kid called Jordan Lewis from the Falcons.Rated more of a mid teens type pick but he is a gem as well...

Jordan Lewis would be a great pick. He gets plenty of posessions, has great penetrating kick and apparently is good at stoppages. Should become a great midfielder in the future. Is a good size as well.

Yes, I agree. Collingwood should definitely take Lewis with pick 7. Then we can have Monfries and then everyone will be happy. ;)

You are right with the bolter bit. Every draft there is a selection in top 5 or 6 that "upsets" the order of the rest of the first round. In the last 2 drafts we had Salopek slip and last year Tenace.

Hopefully Ryan Griffen slips to Crows:p. Very unlikely.

Also agree with the likely possibility that 2 ruckman will be available with pick 12. I think DeLuca will be the first one taken by Carlton with pick 9.

However, this theory can change dramatically after all trades are done.

Yes I somehow think Deluca will be the first ruckmen picked.

Apparently there are 4 clubs all asking for 2 first round picks: Richmond, Port, Adelaide, and Hawthorn .

Griffens chances of dropping are zero. More likely someone like Roughaed or even Franklin.

I dont like the smell of Monfries. Too much of Skipworth about him. Is already developed, (muscular) and too small (think Bratton).

Why didn't he play more league? Pearce got a good run and Sturt were desperate this year????
