COLLINGWOOD'S forward structure has suffered another blow following a minor hamstring injury to recruit Jamie Elliott. The goalkicker had been expected to feature heavily in the NAB Cup, but is set to miss at least the opening round with a strained leg muscle.
Coach Nathan Buckley will have to look to others in attack with Alan Didak and Andrew Krakouer also unavailabl

Could this Be Ugle's Big Chance?

That is 3 in 1 week:mad:

Um, we knew this on Friday.;):p

Herald Sun once again taking 2 days to catch up to the rest of the world.

It's a minor injury anyway, to a player who was no chance of playing round 1 (despite what some said on here), Yagmoor is the only first year player with a 1% chance, and always was the only one.

JE will be back in 2-3 weeks, not a shocking injury.

Re: Another Pie down with Injury

Wouldn't even consider that "suffering a blow". Sucks for Jamie, but let's be honest - he isn't a round 1 starter.

Re: Another Pie down with Injury

I'd rather have 4 go down in time for round 1, then have 1 season ending injury like Nate's last pre-season.

Re: Another Pie down with Injury

I was going to say didn't we know this from the U23 match? Minor hamstring, sounds like he'd be fine for round 2 of the NAB Cup, especially considering there is a week off after round 1.

I don't even know what the U23 match is, so I'm going to have to say no, most people probably didn't know this.

Re: Another Pie down with Injury

I don't know how everyone can say he wouldn't be playing in round 1 after we have already lost Didak and Krakouer out of our forward line. He had been talked up as a potential starter even before those injuries by the Club.

I'm seriously disappointed as I was seriously keen to get a look at him this weekend...

These three types of injuries do not bode well for the rest of the season. We hardly had any soft tissue injuries last year by comparison to other clubs and already we are leading the pack this year.

Re: Another Pie down with Injury

This definitely is a concern that we're getting so many injuries before a ball has even been contested in anger. Bad luck or bad management? Who knows why it's happening but I'm sure it's ust a run of bad luck. Lets hope this is the end of our bad luck and it's now out of the way for us to have a big season and be fit and healthy come finals time.

This year it's going to be more important than ever to manage our list to be cherry ripe for the finals. Geelong have done it successfully in 2009 & 2011. They had a number of untimely injuries and interrupted seasons to some key players but they were able to manage their list beautifully. They rested just about the entire senior list at different times through the season (especially 2011) and then everyone was available come finals time. They had the healthiest list by far come finals and they of course got the chocolates in both of those years.

Every team suffers injuries but it's how the entire list is managed through the season that is absolutely crucial to being a force in the finals.

Agree. Hardly a blip on the radar, hope he recovers quickly but jeez if we're relying on Elliot to be available in the first 3 months then we have way bigger troubles than this.

At this point we don't really know what's going on with Kraks, he might even be back Round 1 (personally I don't think so, but here's to being optimistic). And Didak should be back Round 1 barring a relapse of some nature.

Even that being said, would he be ahead of Yagmoor or Ugle..? I don't genuinely know, so that isn't a rhetorical question.

Re: Another Pie down with Injury

Ugle will be the small forward in the nab cup, come round 1 at LEAST one of krak/didak/elliot will be right so our forward line will be fine. Johnson isnt a huge lose considering his age, i always thought he was going to be a depth player in 2012.

Cloke Dawes Fasolo Macaffer Ugle Witts is the forward line i wouldnt be suprised to see during the nab cup, all though if witts does play it will only be 1-2 games and not the whole thing. Considering our ruck depth, and how they really want to fast track him, what better way then to get nab cup games into him. Keep in mind the new ruck rule will protect his body from getting knocked about too badly.

Plus the teams we play... gws dogs dees and crows, none of them have outstanding or overly aggressive ruckmen, so he should be fine.

The match that was played against Melbourne on Friday was effectively an U23 match with none of the older players taking part. It was reported on here that Jamie didn't play because he tweaked his hamstring.

You need to visit the boards more often!

Yeah I found it tucked away in some obscure thread asking about whether or not there was an upcoming intra-club match.

My point was that most supporters don't get there news about Collingwood from such a place and hence were probably unaware.

That's fine, but you'll find I never said most Pies supporters knew, I said we knew meaning us on BigFooty!

Interesting to note that Elliott did the charity run around the tan yesterday. Clearly only a very minor injury from Friday. Hopefully it was just a bit of tightness...

Clearly I'm behind the times this week. Don't mind me...
