hi guys,

just wondering if there are any music producers on here?
i am currently getting into it just wondering if anyone else is.

cheers boys

TV & Film production, yes. Music, no (although we do churn through a lot of original music and have a lot of stuff produced to order for us).

Good luck with your projects - especially if you intend making some coin out of your new hobby.:thumbsu:

Docos, promotional DVDs, TVCs, radio ads, online video & 3G content etc is the run rate business to fund the bigger ticket jobs.

Currently have a pilot in production for the Discovery Channel (new series), plus a feature documentary & feature film in pre production (and a few other projects on the books, but need more cash before getting them off the ground).

I note that you are of a younger age. Depending on how serious you are about pursuing this career option, you might consider getting qualified in your field of endeavour. I don't know where you live, but there is an excellent two-year course on offer at RMIT. It is called sound and light technology, or something similar.

I know of the course because my son completed it last year. He is currently living in Dublin and he finds the skills he acquired in the course are in huge demand. Others on here may know more about the course. The advantage I'd see in it for you would be that you could work in the industry, while pursuing your own projects. Another advantage of the course is that there is such a wide diversity of areas in which you can gain work. Radio, live performance, audio recording, TV, film, and corporate functions are among them. My son got to work on the Commonwealth Games earlier this year, for the international company which won the broadcast rights. He was responsible for the audio feed broadcast by five countries. As a result, he will be able to gain further work with that company anywhere in the world.

I wish you all the best in your involvement in sound production. Having studied and practised radio production myself, it's a great area to work in and has exciting possibilities for exploring creativity.

thanks alot for the advice skilts, that sounds like the type of course i would want to do, but i would need to do it at night if anything as i work during the days. maybe even if they have it as a part time course.

i will need to check it out a little more.

thanks heaps for the head up

have a good day
cheers

i rekkon if u always love the music you'll be ok....
mite have to moonlight once or twice but who hasn't ?

Although I never intend to go into it I would have the confidence to talk to musicians and producers about various production values.

Here are my preferrred values........

Mid tempo rock:

Something not polished but not demo quality. Guitars lightly distorted to add some edge, a prominant bassline, instrument tracks easily distinguishable, nothing heavy, a lean and muscular sound with guitar fills added tastefully.

I like getting the texture right, and sometimes a contrast can work well. For instance I like the picking sound of a clean rickenbaker accompanied by hard strums of dirty distorted guitar with steel pedal guitar fills played over the top, with ascending and descending riffs building tension. Even fit some horns in that mix.

Instruments must be real, overdubs and fake sounds to be steered clear off and the right balance of tracks for an overall satisfying sound
